The threaded part and the shaft (everything to the right of nut basically) is in the intake, so what you will feel will be the left half of it. The connector slides on the bit sticking out the left end.
Look around the engine bay for a single wire with a white connector on the end. The connector has like a channel that slides over the head of that bit that looks like a nail head on the sender unit. It slides on from the side, not end on. Like if you were looking at that picture, pointed the connector right at it, and then slid it onto the sender. It is a hard one to describe but I hope I have given you enough you will know it if you see it. The book says Black wire with a yellow stripe, but you never know if that is what is on it now.
For reference, the oil sender connects in pretty much the same way, so if you have that one take a look at it.
As for the wires in the dash, the thermo sensor should hook through the big round connector that hooks to back of the whole speedo/guage cluster. The bolts/nuts you see on the back connect the gauge into the circuit board that hooks into that other connector. (That is assuming you are not looking at an aftermarket guage added someplace else.)
