My temp gauge hasn't worked since I bought the truck, so I looked at the back and there's no wires to it, just to bolt and nuts sticking ouf of the back of it. I assume it hasn't been hooked up since the last owner swapped engines, (stock to G200 1.9). I know the hookup is supposed to be under the intake manifold so I felt around under there and all I can feel is a hole and next to that a bolt or something cause it feels like there's a nut over it. If this is the right stuff, how do I hook this up, cause I think my truck is running really hot, and if it is, it's gonna get worse in summer so I'd like to lick it now, thanks.

Your bolt with a nut on it may be the electrical connector for the temperature sensor. If the bolt feels about 1/16" in diameter and the bolt is flat and about an 1/8" across, then it sounds about right. It takes a special female spade connector. A groove in one side to go around the shaft.

there is a thing sticking out of the bolt right, well that thing sticking out is about an eighth of an inch on the top where a connector goes on it like a male quick disconnect like the ones that go on the back of a speaker terminal, 1/4th of an inch wide connector

The threaded part and the shaft (everything to the right of nut basically) is in the intake, so what you will feel will be the left half of it. The connector slides on the bit sticking out the left end.

Look around the engine bay for a single wire with a white connector on the end. The connector has like a channel that slides over the head of that bit that looks like a nail head on the sender unit. It slides on from the side, not end on. Like if you were looking at that picture, pointed the connector right at it, and then slid it onto the sender. It is a hard one to describe but I hope I have given you enough you will know it if you see it. The book says Black wire with a yellow stripe, but you never know if that is what is on it now.

For reference, the oil sender connects in pretty much the same way, so if you have that one take a look at it.

As for the wires in the dash, the thermo sensor should hook through the big round connector that hooks to back of the whole speedo/guage cluster. The bolts/nuts you see on the back connect the gauge into the circuit board that hooks into that other connector. (That is assuming you are not looking at an aftermarket guage added someplace else.)

i need to connect mine too...the wires are completely nonexistent for my temp sender. Can someone here tell me how to put in new wires? Also, where can ya get one of those special connectors?

You could always go to Radio Shack and get an alligator clip to put on the nub of the sender. It makes for easy installation & removal and will be under the intake manifold so no one will see it.

That's a pretty cool idea.

excellent idea....still dont know how the wires run. Theres only one wire that goes to the sensor on the manifold, where does that wire ultimately have to end up going? Does it end at that connector on the back of the gauges in the cab? Which connector?

Who's got the Chilton's or Haynes manual. They usually have a wiring daigram of the vehicle. I have one for 81-90 isuzu P'up & Trooper, but they are slightly different. Still helps with the basic engine stuff though.

Find the yellow/black wire on the back of the guage cluster connector and start tracing it back. More than likely if it doesn't exist in the engine bay you'll find the end of the broken off wire not far into the wiring bundle right over the coil. I believe it usually comes out there and hangs down the inner fender a bit before hooking to the engine. Its not unusual for someone to forget to unhook a wire or two when pulling the motor and end up yanking them off. I would bet if that was how yours disappeared that it would break in or near the bundle of the wiring harness.
