Take the breather off when the engine has been sitting cold and see if there is slight gap between the choke plate and the throttle body. If not set the gap by loosening the circular cover where the electric wire hooks up and adjust the choke gap correctly. Somewhere around a sixteenth of an inch.

Turn the speed screw down till it goes out all the way. This will be linked to the throttle . Its a screw .

First I would maybe time the vehicle per spec. Maybe the dist is adv causing a bit higher idle.

Then I would adjust the mixture screw at the bottom. This will be at the base w/ the spring tension. Turn in till it runs bad then turn it out till it runs bad pict the middle position. Then now go the the speed screw. Hopefully your Luv is warmed up.

also if you have a older point type distributor(single point you can convert it to a Pertronix ignition(got mine from retro Rockets) 70$. Just use standard coil(no 12volttype coil).

But as you said if goes to 1100 rpm after you turn off, then turn it back on.
Is this immedieatly? Then I think you kick down mech is flacky. Is a spring missing. Jammed ?

If it idles ok after warm up then you shut off ,then turn back on. It happens?

you shouldhave a secondary return spring besides using th just the carb springs. Like going to a valve cover bolt or something. Go to hardware store.

My truck does this also. It is annoying as hell. It will randomly stick at a higher idle then the screw is set to and stay there till i hit the gas real hard and let it rev back down. Could it be the plate which the points sits on that turns to advance the engine? I had mine out and the bearings in it felt pretty bad like they were rough and didnt allow it to turn easily.

It may sound obvious, but my truck did the same thing until I put a throttle return spring on. :?
I did not even notice that is was missing when I got the truck. 8O

If the jam nuts that hold the trottle cable housing on the standoff mount beside the carb aren't set right and not leaving some idle slack in the cable, it can be tight and keep the carb from idling.

ya checked for slack...theres actually too much. Throttle return spring i already did and it helped some but not completely....that was only part of the problem apparently.

If the screws that hold the points onto the breaker plate are too long, they will go through too far and rub on the mechanical advance return springs underneath the breaker plate.

good point but i actually took that plate out and felt that it was sticking...i think if that screw was touching it at all it would hold the plate so much that it would really REALLY run poorly...backfiring and such...by the way, does anyone know where to find info on the weber like a full diagram maybe and a full rebuild kit? Will this one work well? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... gory=33551
