 Post subject: Timing marks
PostPosted: Wed Mar 31, 2004 2:08 pm
I am trying to locate the timing marks on an 80 model 1.8L Luv truck. Shouldn't it be a groove on the crankshaft pulley? I tried cleaning it and looking for a mark to line up with the raised embossed pointer deal, but I can't seem to locate one. Is there a secret I don't know about or am I not getting the pulley clean enough to locate the mark. Thanks in advance.

the mark on the crank is very light, i mean it's not very deep

If you take the disptributor cap off, turn the motor so that the roter points to the #1 plug wire on top of the cap. On mine...the roter points at the ground wire on the distributor. Once you have done this, look down at the crank pully. There should be a notch on the INSIDE of the pully right at about TDC mark.
