I found an 8.8 out of a 93 Mustang, complete end to end w/disc's calipers everything. Anyone ever used this? I know there are parts available. And it's cheap.

When I measured one a few months ago I beleive it was about ten inches too wide for the luv. Might want to measure yours to make sure.

Yes it is quite a bit wider, but so is just about everything.
Researching it, you can get just about anything for them; axles/spools/etc.
Also having disc brakes would be nice.
I found this complete, new vented rotors, new pads, new calipers; 300 bucks.
I'm picking it up tomorrow.
I'll let you know.
Thanks

I just picked up two 8"s out of a couple of Mavericks. Theyre only 5" too wide. Kinda the same way with them too. Axles and gears are readily availible. I was thinking about a mini spool just because the trac locks are so damn expensive. Throws out the streetability though.

I was browsing thru the Big 3 swap meet last month and there was a guy there with a Dana 44 Mail Jeep axle. 3.73 posi, for $250. I forgot just how narrow of an axle it is. that should be perfect width (maybe a little too narrow actually) I should have bought it.

Is the axle out of early camaro's the one that fits just about perfect? One of these days my stocker rear is gonna blow with the SBC behind it, and im gonna need to replace it. Might as well look for a replacement now, that way the LUV spends less time out of commision! :P

toyota axle could be strong enough...the 8" axle used in 4x4s and 2wd 1 ton pickups is the same 8" diff/carrier used in 300hp+ supras

my idea of a good axle for if you're going to tub your fenders for slicks is a dana 44(or 60 from a 3/4 ton if you need that much gear :D) out of a jeep wagoneer or j-series pickup with quadratrac all wheel drive. it has an offset diff, so you could cut down the long side to match the short side, and run 2 short side axle shafts.
