I am getting a little discouraged. I started working on the impulse engine, trying to get it to run in the car before I pulled it, and I am having issues. First, the injectors need re-flowed and o-ringed. The injector rail tubes all need replaced. The engine needs torn down and rebuilt (the rings are stuck on a couple of pistons. I am not getting very good compression on 2 and 4) and the turbo is hard to turn, meaning it needs rebuilt also. This is turning into a tough project so far. I am thinking of trashing the fuel injected turbo idea, and just building the 1.8 a little more aggressive and keeping the turbo from the car. I can fab a manifold and use a weber side-draft carb with the turbo and still have a hot runnin truck, but it won't be fuel injected. Ideas or thoughts on this issue?

hey I can understand where you are coming from on being discouraged.
I got very discouraged with my project about a week and a half ago when things weren't going right.
I decided to take a break from it for a couple of weeks and it has helped. I am again thinking of stuff im going to do to it in a couple of days.

my opinion....press on with the turbo project. cause that would be triiiick!
oh and also the 1.8 isn't a good platform to build power with. :?

I have a friend who has an 88 turbo thunderbird. 2300cc motor turbocharged. One day he got the Idea he wanted a 5.0 engine in it. A LOT of work, time, and parts swapping later he had his car the way he wanted it.... Another friend bought the turbo motor from him for his little ford ranger. With considerable less work than was involved with the v8 swap he soon had his ranger running.... Turbo charged now. Soon came race day. Guess what!! the ranger out ran the t-bird by quite a bit in the 1/8 mile. They didn`t race farther, but I think if they would have, the bird would have come up short.
Will be interesting to see how your impulse project turns out. I love it when the little guy wins!!!!

Thanks guys, but I may be biting off more than I can financially chew. There is gonna be extensive engine work done, and turbo work. I am really thinking of going with the 1.8 and just warming it up a bit. I am just trying to get a good daily driver with a little more ass than the stock 1.8. I will keep yall posted on the progress. I am doing all of my go fast stuff to my Lightning. Thanks again and see yall later

maybe you should order a turbo kit from the guy in australia for a g200 for around 900 bucks everything you need included plus includes shipping but i think he is busy right now he has either fuel injection or the one i told you comes with a weber but if you got a weber already he said he would throw in a turbo with a lil more boost

our money is worth more in australia you just have to keep an eye on exchange rates by looking on internet i think last time i checked it was like 1 us dollar = 1.34 aus dollars

just somthin to think about

damn thats sucks justin. sounds like the motor is pretty bad :( i think i'd just do the 1.8. that should be plenty of power to run some big tires, hell john schoolcraft doesn't

i completely agree, you diffently need to set money aside to hook up the lighting

in the past month i've dropped close to 1200 bucks into the blazer.
the video half was only around 650. the rest was done on the motor and
drivetrain.
6 inch in the seat and 7 inch up front.

what about rebuilding the g200 and putting the 1.8 intake, weber, and the turbo on it. the g200 is probably built a little tougher on the lower end since it came with a turbo. but it would be cool to have the fuel injection, but i understand the frustration and money issues. you might try junkyards for impulse fuel injection stuff. the fuel injection is probably the same on non turbo impulses. there is a non turbo impulse in a junkyard here. if you need parts let me know.

The turbo impulse motor is a 4ZC1, the non-turbo uses a G200. The intake and exhaust are much the same, but they are different motors.

You could go 100 ways on this project. FI and turbo on the 1.8, build the 2.0 for carb use with turbo, carb and turbo on the 1.8, and on. If it were me, I'd pick up a good running 2.6L in a Trooper, Rodeo, or something and toss the turbo parts on there. You could probably get a whole donor rig for cheaper than a rebuild on the 2.0, plus it would come with injectors, fuel rail, and etc to replace the bum parts from the Impulse. Plus you could get into a 5spd 4x4 trans if the donor rig came with one. Run the computer from the impulse, most of the intake/motor parts from the 2.6, and wrap a LUVly new shell around it all. If you could find a turbo from a bit larger application that would perfect the setup (replacing your worn turbo and getting enough air to boost that 2.6L).

Of course, that is what I would do with it if I were you...

Looks like it is on hold. We are trying to pay off some bills before the baby is born. I hope I can start on it again sometime this year. I will keep you guys posted, and sorry I haven't been on the boards lately, I seem to work all of the time.
