I've still got that 80 4X4 that I picked up late last year with the engine problems. I'm taking ya'll's advice and updating to an electronic ignition from my friend's 81 model. Here's where I'm at. I took the coil and electronic ignition module from the 81 as a set and am putting it on my 80 model. I've got the distributor installed, the white/red wire with plug to the distributor attached. I've got the big black wire grounded. I have two wires left. I have a wire with a green end with a plug, a wire with a white end and a plug. In another section of the Luv truck I've got somebody's instructions where it lists a red wire with an eyelet in the middle and a plug. I do not have that. But then again I'm taking the whole set up off the 81. I need to know this plug with the green end and the white end, which one goes where. Need your help on this. Thanks a bunch. Sorry for all the detail.

hey let me be the first to tell you, those igniters are a pain in the caboose, mine went out six weeks ago, I think I found one for pretty decent price but most places sell them for $400 give or take. If you can afford it and know how to do the wiring there is an alternative to the igniter itself, mines a nippondenso which they dont make anymore, I dont remember any of the information though, I will try to get that to you soon...

I have this same setup. Green plug goes to a wire on the truck that you should have disconnected at the moment. It is a black wire with semi-yellow stripe. The white plug stays unpluged. If you have everything else connected right it should work. Additionally, I have a black wire with a red stripe coming from the same wire wrap as the other wire on the truck that stays disconnected. If the truck doesnt start shoot another post and I will tell you exactly where all of my wires go.

I would go with what Tuf tells you, I cant remember the colors or anything offhand and my truck is still at the mechanic, here is the info I told you about though.

This is the part that replaces the original Nippondenso http://www.cranecams.com/?show=browsePa ... r=700-0292

jc whitney sells it.

It seems like a good deal for only $100 but you have to rewire everything and that can be messed up if you forget even one little wireit could potentially blow your whole engine, Im checking tomorrow, I found an igniter assembly from Napa that might work, I have to order it still but its onmly $41.99 as opposed to the $394.12 that autozone wants, what a bunch of retards...

that sounds too cheap for the ignitor, they could have sold you the pickup in the distributer. but then again maybe it is the right thing. i'm interested cause my 81 has an ignitor and it has a mark on it from a paint pen, which leads me to believe it came from a junkyard, so at sometime mine w3ent out and was replaced with a used one.
