My 75 was running fine than just stopped idling and ran like crap, I checked the carb out and the floats are good and the needle value seems OK. She still wont idle and I get a backfire thought the carb on acceleration, any suggestions? I was thinking either a timing issue or possibly a vacuum issue.

How can chain jump? and if that is the case what can be done about it? I need to get it running this weekend, as I have friday, Saturday and Sunday off. Thanks

if the chain has never been changed it would be stretched and it would have enough slack to jump.

as for fixing it, it should not take you more than a couple hours to change as long as you have all of your new parts. Some parts stores don't stock them so I would find out today if they have or what.

Have you ever replaced a chain on any motor?

Just to be sure, do a vacuum check. Check all hoses, and replace ones that might be cracked or just look bad, and see if that don't fix it. Then if your problem persists, your not down anything but a couple of bucks and you got all your crappy vacuum hoses replaced!

Check your spark plug wires and make sure they are not broken. This same thing happened to me just a few weeks ago and I only found the broken wire because I was tired of fooling with the timing and decided to check the plugs. Pulled plug #1 wire and it had broken off in the boot right at the plug.

if it is the timing chain, its a pretty major job to change it out. the oil pan has to come off to get the front cover off. it does sound like a timing problem.
