What does it mean when there is tiny little bubbles in the oil or on the dipstick when I take the dipstick out. Thanks

One possibility is this. Motor oil should be clean and oil-looking. White milky-looking bubbles on the oil are a sign of water, usually meaning a blown head gasket.

Please dont tell me its ablown head gasket 8O and No, I didnt put too much oil in, I make sure I either have it at the line or a little bit below it. Also does anyone know anything about lock up in an automatic tranny, would it cause a car to overheat due to no lock up. I know this isnt a site for z cars but they havent answered me on the zcar forum about this. Thanks for the replys

i don't think bubles are a problem, could just be the type of oil, how many bubbles are you talking about? does it smell like oil? is it the right thickness or is it too thin? is it milky? if its not milky, smells alright, and is about the right thickness, i wouldn't worry about it. another sign of something getting into your oil is the oil getting fuller. just keep a check on it and if the oil level stays the same or gets lower, then your probably not getting anything in your oil. i've seen fuel pressure regulators go bad and fill the oilpan with gas, the gas mixes with the oil so the only way you can tell is the oil level rises, gets thinner, and starts to smell like gas.

Hey Zane, I wish I could get her to change it but that aint going to happen not with my wife around. 81luv, I am going to check all that out tomorrow because I dont really want to change a head gasket on a fuel injected z, but if it comes down to it I probably will have to. Thanks for the help guys

(And this is a reply from classiczcar.com.)

"I don't like the sound of 'tiny bubbles in the oil"! Could be a head gasket which would also be the cause of your overheating. Are there bubbles in the coolant or any evidence of coolant in the oil or vice versa? I'm not that knowledgeable on auto trannys but I doubt if it could be the cause of your overheating problem. (Somebody check me here if I'm wrong)"

I tried that already and there is no milky substance, I figure it is the oil pump because the oil gauge does'nt do anything when I rev the car to 3000 rpms

Errr, My Oil pump failed and it just sat their cooking the oil. When I changed it the oil pressure switch hops up and down now.

I think you may have what we call "Bubbly Oilitis" Where you used Mobile or Havoline. They are really bubbly for some reason. Dunno why.

I used Pennzoil and never had a problem.

You might even be getting some blow by in the cylendar. Where the piston rings have pitted the cylendar and it is blowing by. That would be a reason to to overheat. The heat is focused on that one skratch.
