On Friday night I flew up to Portland to go to M.E.P.S. On Saturday I enlisted and swore into the Oregon Army National Guard. I leave for basic traing and AIT in Fort Bennings, GA on Oct. 12.

My MOS is 11H which is a branch of the Infrantry unit. I'll be rolling in Hummers blowing up tanks basically.

This weekend I'm going to drill with the unit and do some mock war stuff with laser tag equipment and blanks. I get paid $200 a pop to go play soldier for the next 6 months until I leave for boot camp. I'm pretty stoked. Now I can actually go to school for something worth while, get to do stuff most people only dream of and get to serve my country and actually earn my right to be an American.

Good luck man. Basic really isn't a big deal. Went to Ft. Benning myself, C co. 2/54 as I recall, for OSUT (One Station Unit Training). You'll actually be there around the same time of year I was. Weird one day hotter than hell the next colder than hell.

Yeah thats what I hear. I heard in Oct/Nov, its like 75-80 and 110% humidity. I'm going to work out all summer in longsleeve shirts here so I should be used to the heat by then.

The heat isn't to bad. The humidity makes it hard to breathe. And you don't get used to it  But in Oct/Nov it's not quite as bad. Good luck to ya.

I get to go drill with my unit this weekend. It'll be fun. I get to go get my fatigues and my guns tomorrow night.

im signing up with the air force come august or june, not sure which but I want to join later so I end up at basic in san antonio in teh winter. you think the heat isnt that bad its just the humidity eh? try my little part of NOr-Cal, it gets 110 regularly and its hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk, tell me that isnt hot after youve stood on the roof of a house for 6 hours scraping off tarpaper and shingles, fun stuff I say...
