A 55 probably doesn't have a truly straight line anywhere on it. It just takes a lot of time. Better tools will trade for some of that time, but not all of it. For overly curved stuff a sandbag and rounded hammer come in real handy. That lets you put that curve in the metal going both directions. You might be able to rig something like that with a round nose hammer and something with a little give to pound on. I've done some just messing around type stuff pounding on a block of wood, or just some good clean dirt.

In the end, if you have to miss it fitting exactly, make it an indentation that you can skin over with filler. Starting out and not having a full on body shop, sometimes you have to smooth things with a little bondo. Just don't fall back on it too quick and do as much as you can to cut down the amount needed.

I found luck by duct taping a wire mesh behind it, then putying it. Then after that taking a thing that looks like you will gouge someone's eyes out and getting all of the really extra putty off (Bondo), then doing a rough sand then doing another bondo, then repeating the process then getting an orbital sander and sanding it down then priming both the back and the front. But I always nail the back with the navy rust goo first.

Well people are helping me out in town with tips like using a wet rag

after welding a little bit. I should have thought of that. I also got the

piece shaped the right way. Might use the body hammer a lil bit but i

guess i will figure it out.

If you guys could share some tips that'd be cool. The other night i was

totally mad cause i thought i wasnt doing the process right but my dad

said it didnt look bad that made me glad i ll post some pics soon of how

its goin.

James
