It works basically the same as brakes. Instead of the pedal coming up higher as pressure builds, the slave cylinder moves more. Brakes don't move as much at the business end compared to the stroke of the clutch slave. The whole system doesn't have a lot of fluid in it, so it doesn't take many tries to push all the air through it. Pump pedal a few times to get bubbles out of the master cylinder, pedal up, open bleeder, pedal down, close bleeder, pedal up, repeat. I can't see it taking more than 5-6 repeats.
