if the fuel return line is hooked up then there shouldn't be a problem with too much pressure, but if its not hooked up there could be too much pressure. sounds like a messed up neatle or seat or a float with a hole in it. if your fuel return line is not hooked up, then you could put the old pump on, and see if it fixes it.

My carb does the same thing. I think they are supposed to do that to an extent. Not pouring, but just trickling into the carb. Did you use the same size fuel pump? If you had it running on the old fuel pump I'd swap the old one back in. If you leave the fuel pump to run without starting the truck, does any fuel come out from around the carb?

might sound stupid but i had the same problem 2 days ago...rebuilt the carb put it back on and it dumped fuel straight out the bottom of the venturi like crazy...took it off and found out some screws were a bit loose...tighteded them up and put it back on and adjusted linkage correctly and it quit...just a thot...

I had the same problem a few months ago and even went so far as putting Permatex on both sides of the gaskets when I rebuilt the carb. Still dumped raw fuel into the intake manifold. After the third Hitachi, I went for a Weber and ended the frustration.

I adjusted my float and mine quit pouring gas down the carb, though I still hate the hitachi. Even the hitachi distributor is going to get replaced with the Unilite, thanks to everyone who showed me where to get one. Much appreciated.

That needle and seat could be stuck open causing the fuel not to go to the return line. It's simple to pull off and blow in and get the trash out.

Well no luck with the carb to day.. I thought maybe the return line was pluged up ... I took the return line off the carb and ran it straight into a can... Still poured out the jet thingys on top off the carb... I think my next move is going to be to take it off take it all apart AGIN.. and find someone that is good with carbs to fix it.. BECOUSE IM STUPID ! .. well i take that back.. ill never learn how to fix a carb if i dont try .

My uncle ray said something about the jets being bad.. i dont think that it

If it is pouring out of the overflow pipes right at the top of the carb (see this post for a pic of what I'm talking about: http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?t=3627 ) the problem is either the float or the needle valve and seat. The float could just have a hole in it or it could be just adjusted really wrong. The needle valve might be really worn or could have some crud stuck in it keeping it from closing. Do you actually get fuel out of the return line if you run it from the carb to just a can standing by? If nothing comes out the return on the carb, the needle valve is most definitely not closing either from float or a problem in the valve. (Assuming gas is coming out the overflow pipes, not somewhere else.)
