so i think to myself...this thing is running like shit! So i tore the hitachi carb off my 79 luv today and completely rebuild it. After throwin it back together and on the truck I find that well...its runs more like SHIT! Well so i look down the throat of the carb and wut is this? Holy crap...looks like someones running a garden hose full of gas down that son of a bitch....so looks like the venturi is cracked or somethin....neways. So im lookin at webers and i see they are cheap on ebay. So for my question....I want to know how tough it is to rejet the carb for the luv from a 22r engine. Im confident on my abilities with carbs but dont know what jets to get and what not. So say you get a steal for just the carb and airfilter at 180 bucks. Can you get the rest of whats needed, jets.adapter.linkage for cheap enough to make it worth it? And how do you know which jets to get? just ask the weber dealer???

the 22r probly wont have a much bigger carb. I would say run whith it and if you have problems then try to track down the jets.

22R has a 326cfm carb stock, a 20R has a 190

weber 32/36 is 325cfm, and 38mm is 390

You can do a lot with a Weber by tuning it and the process will tell you if it is jetted too rich or too lean for the motor it is on. If the idle mixture screw has to be too far closed, its over jetted, too open and its under jetted. The jets themselves are not too hard to switch and not terribly expensive as I recall. I would suspect a 32/36 for a 22R might be a bit rich for a LUV, but not too far out for adjustments to get it to 95%.

http://www.carbs.net has adjustment and tuning instructions and there are several old posts here to search for with the information as well. It basically amounts to turning the idle mixture screw back and forth and listening to the motor. Once you dial it in, you turn the screw all the way in and count the turns. Too many and you are lean, too few and you are too rich on the jets. Reset the screw where it was and decide if it runs good enough, or if you want to order jets accordingly.
