I tore one of my extra buick engines down today, And I found its been recently rebuilt with clevite parts. Im couldnt fidn any numbers on the pistons or rings, to show if they were bored or not, but im taking everything into school with me tommorrow, and cleaning it all up. Its going to need the new rocker arms, timing chian set, and an oil pan. When I pulled the timing cover off, I found that 15 teeth on the cam sproket were broken off, and the chian was really lose. Which is probably why the engine wouldnt run. The oil pickup screen had absolutely nuthing in it, which shows its probably hasnt been long scince the clevite parts were installed. The cam and crank both appear to be in exec. shape also, and there is no ridge in the cylinder walls either.

well thats good news. sucks about the timing gear, just need a timing set. you might want to just go ahead and put bearings in it anyway while you have it torn down, if it doesn't cost to much. it sucks to put an engine in and then a little while after it starts knocking. i guess i just depends on what its gonna be used for.

you may also want to get edelbrock aluminum intake for 79 up heads. the 79 up heads have a taller intake runner.
I just remembered I had kenne belle shaft mount roller rockers on mine...boy were they expensive!! you can dump alot of money in the buick V6 and not get much more power gains...my advice is to leave it stock. good luck! :D

Took the block in to have it degreased, and have cma bearings installed.... $83 to have it degreased, plus cost of labor and parts, for the bearings
