Just go pick up a 4x4 LUV!  That way you got AWD whenever you want, plus if you want 2WD you got that too! :D

But if your looking for a true AWD, then I'd say find a old AWD vehicle, and pull out the drivetrain and do a swap! A hell of a project....but it would be extremely cool 8)

gut a quadratrac transfer case out of a jeep, there's a lot of AWD ones out there, and hook it up

I think I posted a topic on this once, because I had the chance to pick up a drivetrain from a totaled out GMC Syclone. Man I wish I would have done it anyway, but the drivetrain was back home in Texas and another guy came up with the cash first. Well just my two pennies.

most likely not. if i was ever to make a v8 powered 4x4, it would have a straight axle sitting under it anyhow

gut a jeep for it. youll get dana44 axles and the quadra trac T-case. That shoulkd hold up to a v-8, they run 318s in the grand cherokees

What about an Astro van front end? Ive seen them with v8s. Ive beat the snot out of mine and all Ive done so far is break a torsion bar in half.

the thing is, why go through all the trouble of gutting some ifs setup off an astro when you could pick up a straight axle and some leaf springs?

what im trying to do is get the extra traction for coming off the line...would the jeep parts be geared too low? or would it matter? i am not too sure of the mechanics of the transfer case.......

unless it's something wierd, hi range should be 1:1, so it shouldn't make any difference. jeep axles are typically geared up in the 2.xx-3.xx range, but you could get them regeared if you need to.

fullsize jeep stuff(out of a j series truck, big wagoneer/cherokee etc) would probably be stout enough to hold up to some horsepower. remember, these came available with 318s, 360s and 401s from the factory
