If you want to hang out with a few fellow V8 LUV owners, make a trip out to Irwindale Speedway on next Thursday! I'm trailerin out my '76 and Michael Van Horn sent me an email today saying that he is planning to be there with his '72. I sent an email to Howard King to see if he is going to be there again also.

I'm bringing a digital camera to snap some shots of the highlights. It would be awesome to get a few LUV's lined up for a group shot!

I'll probably get there around 4pm and will probably stay till 8 or 9pm.

If you need more info about the track, they have a nice web site at http://www.irwindalespeedway.com. Look in the dragstrip section for the drag race schedule.

If you want to run Luv to Luv(called a grude match at the track) you need to line up behind one another, and tell the guy at the head of the staging lanes.

I'll be a day late and a dollar short! (story of my life) LOL I will be down there (in the LA area) on the 8th through the 15th on vacation. I will be eager to see some photos, of what just might be the first LUV meet/race in history?

Derek, I will bringing out the LUV on the 6th. I wish you could be here. We will let you know the times. I will only run it on the small tune up. I don't have a roll cage in it yet and they will kick me out. 8)

That's great Mike! I sure hate to miss this event, but I am really glad the site may be responsible for this LUV get together on Thursday! It's stuff like this that makes all the hard work that is put into the site pay off!

Everyone make sure to get lots of pictures of the event, and your trucks! to share on the site. I should be the one taking the photos and shooting video while you guys tear up the strip in your trucks. Actually, how bout everyone meet back up at irwindale on the following Thursday the 13th! Just kidding! LOL :)

Hmmmm....

I can go both weeks but I can probably only get the trailer for one of them.

It's probably too late to change the plans now.

The race was REALLY cool! All four of us made it and got to make a few passes. It was great meeting everyone too. Howard, Mike, and Michael are all WAY cool guys. My only regret was that it seemed too short. I realized right away that we weren't going to have time to take all the pictures that I had planned on taking. By the time we all got through tech and each made a pass down the track, it was getting dark. The track only had ONE TECH GUY checking all the cars!

Here's a few pictures:

Here's the videos of our passes down the 1/8th mile:

Here's Howard and Michael running side by side. Video.

Howard told me later that he was taking it easy on this first pass because he just rebuilt his rear end.

Michael's truck was a blast to watch because he was literally spinning his tire down the entire 1/8th mile! Michael's truck is making plenty of power for sure. If he decides to swap out his rear axle he's going to shave off a huge amount of time from his ET.

Here's Mike and I making a pass. Video
The ONLY reason I beat him was because he was experiencing technical difficulties. The next race Mike beat me with a a 7.197 at 96.15mph, the best LUV time of the day. Unfortunately, the camera man didn't catch our second race.

My second pass by myself taken early in the day. Video
My best time of the day was a 7.475 at 90.38mph, 1.600 60ft. Later in the day I managed a 1.596 60ft with a little advice from Mike.

Actually i did get the second race of Ben and Mike, but I had a brain fart, and pulled the disk out of the camera before it recorded it..DOH !! I gues I was in a hurry to get the next disk installed to catch Michael and Howards run. I'm suprised that my digital camera can take videos like that.

Too cool guys!!!! Hey if this kind of content doesn't get LUV enthusiasts amped up and 'inspired' I don't know what will! Brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “show me the LUV”! Ben the truck is looking good, specially going down the track! I really dig the side-by-side LUV runs! And my hat off to Phil (aintgotluv) for capturing the action, I think the first shot of the guys with their trucks is a prime candidate for the home page of the site! What do you think?

I'd be OK with it but I'm not sure about Mike. LOL! We had to coax him to stand by his because he said technically it's his wife's truck.

You can put the pic on the opening page. I figured out the problem with the truck. It runs good again. I changed the carb and it hits the hood now. That's why it runs good without the hood. This morning I drove it with the hood scoop on and ran like it did yesterday. I then unscrewed the hood scoop and it ran great. I then put the scoop back on and it ran bad again. I know it is time to mill off the airhorn on the carb. Ny other carb didn't have an airhorn. Irwindale next week?????

I guess you have a point about Mike and Chanen's truck, we will let Mike and Chanen make the call. Sounds like maybe we need to try to get a snapshot of Chanen with the truck to post on the site, I mean we're talking some bragging rights here! LOL Hopefully over time we can build a collection of group LUV shots as more events unfold!

Well... I went back to Irwindale last night. I had a 1.44 60ft!!!!!! It carried the front wheels about a foot in the air and almost 60 feet out. It landed about 2 feet from the wall and I pulled it back straight. I thought it would be a good pass, then it shut competely off at the top of second gear. I coasted through in second gear with a 6.68 @ 89 mph. I decided not to run it anymore until I have some time to figure out why it shut off during the run. I am just glad it can leave this hard. :D
