how much work did you guys with the sbc's have to do for the truck to handle properly? i have access to a couple of nice small blocks, they are my grandfathers, but he thinks they are too powerful for my luv and that it will cause too much problems for steering and everything else...so im just wondering what work you did to make it safe??

A luv with a small block, or big block for that matter, isn't inherently unsafe. No more so than a stock one. The unsafest part of it or any other vehicle is the person behind the wheel.

As for too much power....If I could I'd put a sbc for every wheel, I'd do it. Just need to find some room and a way to syncronize them. :D

I have a nice lil heft 350 in my 78, and it handles and corners just as good as it did with the 4 banger in it, just get to test my skills a lil bit sooner than I use to be able to. I run stock suspention from torsion bars in the front (one of with the idiot i bought it from stipped out (used airgun to lower it)) to the leafsprings in the back. As nascar said, its hard sitting still, but once your moving it does good. I also took off the power to the power brakes, I hated going through the windshield (taking my seatbelt with me all the way, and thats just tapping the brakes).

If anyone is doing a conversion, can they put pictures and a step by step on how they did it up?
