sounds like your talking about the starter bendix. the selonoid just sends power to the starter motor. the bendix is what kicks the gear into the flywheel. you could probably look around and find one but would probable be cheaper and better to buy a rebuilt starter. i bought one at oreilly auto parts for $30. and it has a lifetime warranty. perfect for offroading. i gotta pull mine off and take it in for another. last offroading trip and a little high water has given mine the death click.

The LUV starter has the solenoid (basically just a big switch to kick on the juice direct from the battery) built into the mechanism to engage the starter gear into the flywheel. There is a lever that forces the gear back along the shaft instead of a bendix assembly on the shaft. IIRC a bendix sort of spins the gear out from the starter just by the torque of the starter motor kicking over, and the stock LUV starter is setup different.

You can get the solenoid seperate from the starter, but its almost as expensive. http://www.rockauto.com has a bosch rebuild starter for $38 including a $3 core charge, and the solenoid alone is $35.

Might as well take the starter off the 73 and see if it will fit in the 75 then. I can get a starter at Advance Auto for like $29. So it is not that bad. It is just depressing when you have to kick it three or four times in order for it to turn over though.
