I am meeting with a recruiter next week. I am going to take the ASVAB on Tuesday and then I'm meeting with the guy on Wednesday. I'm just going to see what they have to offer. I was just curious what any of you have to say that have done it first hand.

I know recruiters are infamous for lying or making promises they can't gaurantee.

So, any advice?

Thanks
Daniel

i singed up this last fall and im leaving this spring. All i can say is just read everything yourself. If you dont like whats happening, leave (i did this whith one recruiter). I have a friend who has been in for about 3months. He has nothing but good stuff to say about it, he working avionics on helicopters in Vegas right now. I also have a buddy who is stained here at Fair Child also working avionics and he enjoys it alot too. Just research things for yourself and trust the recruiter as far as you could throw him

Been through it. Bottom line is, if it isn't in writing don't count on it. I think generally though they're pretty good about what they say, they just embellish it a bit. After all what it boils down to, is they are salesmen. Just try to find an job that you will learn skills you can put to use in civilian life.

I completley agree make sure that EVRYTHING is in writing I have seen to many kids join up just to be screwed cause something didnt get put in their contract. Also like Diarmadhim said...... please make sure that it is something that you would like to do when you get out of the miltary, there are many jobs in the military that convert to a civilian job easily, such as the two that I have had so far, as a Helicopter mechanic/crewchief and an Operating room technician (surigcal tech) With either of these two jobs I can get out of the miltary at anytime and start a new job making roughly 17$ to 35$ an hour just depeneds on which job I do and where I do it at! Well just my two pennies

Damn, another one. Why doesn't anyone go talk to the Navy recruiters? You could see the world!!! Believe me, my 10 years overseas was a GREAT time. I could confirm with stories about my 7 trips to Thailand, but that would just confirm what people think about us sailors... 8O

BTW, I hope it goes well for you... :D

My senior year of high school I tried to join the Navy. I couldn't pass their hearing test. Bummed me out, but when I told the Marine recruiter that was pestering me to join up w/ them, he said I couldn't do the Marine thing either & to have a good life. The AF & Army both called me up & said "no prob" on the hearing thing & come on down & enlist. I said no thanx.......

The AF is a great organization. My high school buddy joined up after he graduated & is still in today. IIRC, he is/was a tech control person. He can go to work for the telephone co.s for good wages any time he wants out of the AF. So be sure to get into something you want to do for a long time to come.

Yeah I am thinking mechanics or air traffic control or something. I am taking the ASVAB tomorrow and we'll go from there. Thanks for the advice everyone. I have heard the AF is a great org. and really family oriented. I would check out the navy, but my wife and parents wouldn't be too thrilled with that. My friend is a marine and he was stationed in Tailand for 2 years. He had some stories. Some of them kinda disturbing and gross.

Anyhow, thanks for the tips, I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Ah yes, the memories of countless nights of "me time" with rosey palm and her five sisters. That was just to keep my tolerance up for Thailand, jackass.....

You know I love ya (In the manly man sort of way) :P ...

Later...

I got my ASVAB scores back. 70! not too bad for not being in school for a few years. I took it to find out my weak areas that I needed to study in, then I was going to take it again, but I don't have to.

So I scored high enough to qualify for the GI kicker, which is another $400+ a month if I go to school full time (ANG) If I go full time Airforce, then I will get the GI bill and kicker when I get out.
