Amazing... I've had this truck for 3 or 4 months, and I have never sat in it. Those of you who read my previous posts know that I paid $250 for it, and the body is in great shape.

So get this, I finally go to the storage this evening to start sizing up the situation, and I'll be.... I have a 1980 Mikado 4x4, 4-speed standard complete with carpet and air. Even has a sliding back glass. The dashboard has all the typical cracks in it, but isn't nearly as bad as some of the one's I have seen.

Even better, I put a cheap ol battery in it, primed the carburetor, and it started! Idled really well, actually. :D So then it died. lol... Fuel pump didn't really like sitting up for those 6 or 7 years, I don't guess. Anyways, I got a buddy to keep pouring gas in the carb as it needed, and the air even works! Dang! Kind of makes me feel bad that it's all going to be gutted to make room for the v-8. :P

So anyway, I'm eventually going to take it off the frame and build it up the right way. Probably going to end up taking the 4 wheel drive stuff off of it too. I may be putting some stuff up on here to sell once I get started. I guess we'll see when the time comes.

Thought ya'll would like to hear about my good fortune.

By the way, I'm going out of town for a couple of weeks, so I'll see ya'll later.

OK, guys... I'm going out to the storage place today to take some "before" pictures of my LUV. Technology scares me, so I still have an old 35mm and a scanner. I should be getting the pics developed in a week or so.

After I take the pics, I'm going to start tearing stuff out of it. My goal here is just to have a frame and start from there. I'll keep you guys posted.

Larphead, our trucks could pose as twins almost. I took about 20 pictures earlier. I should be developing them in a couple of days at the most.

I had to replace my fuel pump with a purolator I had lying around, then I had to bypass the pump relay. There's a nice heavy guage white wire running on the outside of the truck to the new fuel pump.

Anyways, I drove it around the mini storage, and it almost made it all the way back in my bin. The filter and lines in front of the pump got a little trash in them. Later, I'm going to get an air compressor and blow the line out and replace the filter, then probably drive it for a couple of weeks or so, then start hackin.

I'm not sure how much of the stuff I will be selling, there's a luv in the next neighborhood down that hasn't moved in a while. I may make him an offer. I'll keep everyone in the know.

Do I just email my pictures to Ben to put in the projects gallery?

Also, on the carburetor. The jet on the choke side is boogered up something fierce. I took pictures of that too. Good thing it's not my daily driver... yet.

Just an update on the pictures... I've started taking the truck apart. I'm going to take the remaining 4 pictures of it like that and should have them all scanned this weekend. I'll probably do the yahoo breifcase thing to it and send a few choice ones in for the projects gallery.

I need to invest in a digital camera.

BTW... I've found the transmission I must have. Time to stop spending all the money on booze and start saving. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=29559 Tell me what you guys think... this transmission, or should I hold out for the richmond 6 speed?

I was always kinda partial to the Lenco...I like the look of the shift levers and they're supposedly bulletproof. probably not the most street friendly transmission though.

Thought I'd FINALLY post a pic.... This is my old LUV from back in 1996. The white Crown Vic behind it is now my daily driver (its the one in the driveway, not in the carport.) I got the pics of the "new" truck developed, and one of these days, I'll scan and post them.

Anyways, here's my old truck in the pre-purple days. It's Primer-gray, so the black and white picture didn't hide much...

I miss that tonneau cover. Got it at AutoZone for 50 bucks I think, and it actually was specified to fit a LUV. My grandfather drives this truck now, he's going to give it back one of these days. I wish I had some pictures of that "custom" bumper I had made. Cast iron.
