Hello,

I just rebuilt my 1980 chevy luv. Put a weber carb on it. Runs great except I am having a lot of blow by coming through my breather. Especially when I pull a hill. Yesterday I had to remove the hose and put a breather on because it was sending oil to my carb. Please help a little stumped on what to do.

Two possabilities here. Either the PVC system is not working/not connected up properly, or--the engine is worn and has too much blowby for the system to handle.
In the stock system air is pulled from the air cleaner into the engine through a hose on the valve cover, after which it is pulled back out through a small hose near the center of the valve cover and into the intake manifold at the base of the carburator. This is how it is supposed to work, so make sure it is connected properly and that the small orfice in the valve cover is not plugged.

At the base of the carburetor which vacuum hose is the small line hose from the valve cover supposed to connect to? Online and books do not talk about which one.

On the stock carb it was a fitting slightly larger at the base of the carb and pointing towards the valve cover. On the weber i'm not sure.
In any case start and idle the engine and it should have a strong vacuum on it.

I think the vacuum fitting for the PCV is pressed into the intake plenum below the carb base, that way it's still there no matter what carb is used. If there are two fittings in this area use the larger for the PCV, the smaller is a good source of distributor vacuum. After hooking it up make sure you have a filtered fresh air source into the top back of the valve cover, either hook the hose up so it draws air through the air cleaner or install a filter into the valve cover.
The excessive blow-by you currently have should reduce as the newly rebuilt engine seats together after complete break in. If using a filter make sure to keep it clean, if it gets oil soaked it can't function.

I have the same issue. I have a rebuilt G200 with 27k miles on it and it's been blowing oil around for a while. The breather tube from the valve cover to the carb was fouling my plugs, so I put breathers on both that fitting and the oil fill hole. It still blows oil everywhere. I'm thinking about doing a puke tank like the blown big blocks run. Those mount high up on the blowers though and our valve covers are pretty much at the top of the engine compartment, so it will be tough to get a puke tank to drain properly.

It's the horizontal cylinder on the back of this blower. The hoses drain to the valve covers.

People say its the rings but I've heard of other people with rebuilt motors that do this too. I'm also running a weber.
