Trying to fix my screwed up timing chain and pulled the front cover. Looking for the timing mark (slit) on the crankshaft. Is this it?

It's the only slit I could find, but it that's it then it's up top at 0degrees when the timing Mark should be on the bottom...

P.s. I have a manual but the picture sucks a**

Ok I think I got it but damn the manual is confusing as heck. I think the mark in the crank shaft timing sprocket is how it needs to be. See pic.. Is this correct? Mark plate on chain lined up with circle Mark on sprocket...

Waiting on confirmation that that is the right timing Mark. Don't want to have to take this bitch apart again..

Looks correct. I never went by any slit, dot, or timing link. Basicly put the key way straight up and the pully should point to 0 degrees ignition timing. Then look behind the top timing chain sprocket and should line up with a "slit" or "v" at the top. If not, turn the crankshaft one more revolution to line it up on top correctly. At this point the distributor rotor should point to #4. If not, just change the spark plug wires in the cap instead of redoing everything. 1-3-4-2 counter clockwise.

Got it put back together and seems to run much better. Still need to time it.. Engine builder assembled it wrong, the cam was off 180 and the timing chain was off by a couple teeth. Might as well have rebuilt it myself.......

Spoke to soon. Truck is running like crap. Started right up but runs rough and sputters. I personally went through timing chain install per manual.. Crank shaft key set at 12:00, 1 and 4 piston up top. Cam shaft timing Mark at 12:00 for #4 piston Tdc on compression. Chain timing marks alined per manual. Oilpump gear installed with offset to front just like pictured in manual with rotor pointing at #4. What is the problem! It ran better when cam was out 180 and off a gear.... Did compression test all 4 cylinders at 150psi cold.

Running weber carb that im going to go thru next along with a new fuel filter. But it was running faily decent before I started correcting what my engine builder did.. Very frustrating...
