So some guy for some reason said his 1979 Luv is better than my 1980, how true is this? Last time i heard the 79's are almost worth nothing(basically just for parts). The guy looked and sounded like jerk

Hahaha guy was just a dip$h!t that thinks his truck is the cooliest...
79 & 80 are the same truck
76? 77? and older are different in a few ways, different engine and some misc other small stuff. can't remember which year the changes were but I think it was 77 for the single headlights, engine etc
And most luvs that werent in a barn or well taken care if are pretty much "worthless parts trucks" until someone with a lot of time buys them. No reason a 79 and 80 would cost a different other than condition

If you think a 79 is "worth nothing(basically just for parts)" then the same thing is true for a 80.

Not trying to start a war but you saying a 79 is worthless is as bad as him saying the 80 is junk.

Oh no dont get me wrong here man i didnt say or think that about 79's. Im just saying that's just something ive heard frm other Luv owners frm around here about the 79's. I got Luv for all Luvs.

P.s. Ive also heard the 69-70 C-10's arent as valuable as the 67-68's or 71-72's. But idk, i guess its all personal opinion.

Nah 79-80 no reason at all it would be better
Only reason I would take a 79 vs my 80 would be that I wouldn't have to feel like a tool talking about 70s mini trucks when I drive an 80.. the whole it was the last year of a body style from 72 that was really based on a car designed in the late 60s and yeah... 79 is easier to explain but that's the only difference.. why would the last year be worse than the one before it? That doesn't even make sense

That said my truck was what 99.95% of people consider for parts or scrap. But I got it for $150 so i undercut the scrappers. I spent forever on it and I wouldn't have done it any other way. We luv fans are strange but determined people

If anything the ones you want are the 72-74 especially the 72. Anyone in Cali will want pre 75 so they can swap engines and duck emissions. And the 72 had a lot of stuff only found on them

So basically to say a certain Luv truck is better than the 80' it would be any pre 75' and thats because here in Cali they wont ask for smog on a pre 75' right? Meaning it would make it cooler to have a pre 75' instead of an 80' for smog issues. But theres no such thing as a 79' being better than 80' or vice versa, cause there both THE SAME SH*T!!!! Correct???

These are the differences I know of between a '79 & a '80;
-front fender side emblems are different, I think the '80s may be a bit bigger.
-'79 engine has a 42.4mm intake valve, '80 has a 40.2mm.
-in the 4x4 the '80 uses a different flywheel and a 8.5" clutch, the '79 still uses the same 8" clutch as 2wd models.
There are probably other differences- list them if you know them- but I don't see how any of them could make one version significantly more desirable than the other.

What would make one Luv better than another would be its condition. Was it garaged and cared for or put out in a field to rot away. To a true Luv fanatic any Luv is a good Luv, some just require more work than others. 8)

He was refering to the 79' year beeing better than the 80' year, not in the condition of the pickups. But i know now theres really no major diffrence, unless like you say it would only make one or the other better because of the condition its in. But i guess he was just being an ass.

Wait I didn't realize the 79 had a 2mm bigger intake valve. That would make a difference. Not sure how much

For California smog it's the 75 and earlier that are exempt. 1976 and up need smog checks.

He's probably thinking you have a square 81 which does have a different taillight is isn't as cool as a 79.
