Should be the same on 79 and 80.

is this when it is hot or when it is cold? The reaon i even ask is because i want to check them....simply because the engine was rebuilt recently by someone i dont know. The guy i bought the truck from either rebuilt it himself or had it rebuilt.....he had it bored out by a local machine shop to so all cylinders have about 180lb psi :D Neways, when im driving it...it accelerates great sounds awesome...until i let off on the gas and leave in in gear. It pops and backfires and makes all kinds of nasty sounds unless i take it out of gear and then it idles right down. Any ideas wut it could be? I have heard that possibly poor valve job, but what else could i try?

According to the series 9 manual, these measurements need to be taken cold. It says "low temperature". The backfiring and popping could be distributor timing, or carb problems. There is an anti-dieseling solenoid and a coasting richer solenoid. Both of these are related to in-gear deceleration. I had multiple problems with my stock hitatchi carb, and replaced it with a weber 32/36 dgev electric choke carb from carbs unlimited. The kit was about 325.00 and came with everything I needed to switch from stock to weber. Hope this helps.

That could be part of it. Have you done any research to see what all is gone?

dont know how to figure out what should all be there....from what i can tell i can see there must have been some kind of air pump on the thing thats completely gone....there is only one hose connected to the carb and that one is one i connected to it from the original air cleaner i found and installed. All holes i can see are plugged but who knows I could have missed some. Im going to fix that soon with 32/36 carb. It runs so poorly with that carb i dont know why they bothered with it...might have better luck spraying gas straight down the frkin manifold with a spray bottle.....as far as electrical missing i have no clue wut the truck came stock with. I imagine a manual for the truck might help me with that, anybody know where i can get an orginal shop manual?
