i have a 1980 4x4 LUV, it would be driving fine and then randomly shut off and turn right back on by itself til finally it died on me the other day and it had no power going to the ignition switch but anything that didnt need to go through the ignition switch to work, still worked, (brake lights, headlights, etc.). so i figured it was the ignition switch and put power to it using a wire from the battery and of course everything worked.. but when i pulled the wire off, everything still had power. seems like an intermittent problem to me.. so while everything was still working i decided to go under the hood while it was running and see if i could find something grounding out. I found three wires that were not connected to anything. i think one was yellow, dont remember for sure and dont remember one other one at all but i had a black wire with a red line on it and i put the test light on it and it killed the motor, fuel pump and heater and everything were still on so i wouldnt think it would have anything to do with the problem i stated previously, so im not sure whats going on here but was wondering if anyone might know what that wire is and what could be the problem, with the ignition switch power? Also, i have a brand new starter in there, not sure if it would affect anything but figured id let ya know that cause i know sometimes new stuff can be junk too

Just a quick guess I would be looking at the fuseable link.

Sounds like your having same problems I'm having with electrical gremlins. I've got loose wires, extra wires, as the former owner did a lot of "creative wiring." I replaced starter thinking that was problem, nope! Cleaned the fuse box, nope. A former poster referred to a heater blower relay that he thought may be the problem. Next time I tried to start engine, blower worked better than it ever has. Sorry I can't be of any more assistance here, I'm not sure I'm helping myself! Good luck

You mean like the fuse box? @ luvrv8

And yeah my trucks former owner definitely made some quick and cheap electrical repairs haha

Have you found the wiring diagram for your truck in the information section yet? Print this document nice and big, and field-verify the wire runs you're confused by: http://www.luvtruck.com/PDF/Series9&10.pdf
Don't trust any wire colors, generally speaking. There are a few places where a wire is spliced into a harness halfway through the run, and there's no guarantee that the colors match. That is how these trucks come from the factory, by the way. And who knows what else has been done in the mean time.

I used a few different colored highlighters to keep things organized.

It looks chaotic, and the lines are too close together, but it's a smart diagram - laid out like a truck from above, making it relatively easy to figure things out.

No, there is a fuseable link at the battery to the main feed. It looks close to what a normal wire is. When it acts up, bend it a bit and see if it makes contact.

Also many say the fuse box usually need cleaned. I don't doubt it but I personally have had no issues with any of mine but like I said many have reported it has fixed many problems.
