My mods are listed below. Not sure what my jets are, I didn't install the carb. Timing is set to 6 without vacuum connected. I'm getting 19.5 mpg combined with lots of traffic in my area.

Cooper Cobra tires.

How do we get better mileage? Is the stock carb better? I have a couple laying around but I don't think it will fit on my intake.

i was getting low to mid 20's including traffic and throwing it sideways in the rain a lot. with a 32/36 weber and 85 pup electronic ignition and a full emissions delete on a rebuilt g180.
I kept it at 55 on the freeway and it got great mileage I was able to make the 177 mile drive to seattle and a good chunk of the way back on a tank of gas I estimated it at around 30mpg for that trip but there was no traffic just a slow steady cruise along mostly level highway

the stock carb is not better in any way really, the weber is the way to go unless you have a 38/38, the 32/36 gets great mileage and is more responsive, the 38/38 is able to open up and dump in the fuel and air quickly so it is more about performance

35-38 MPG around town, with A/C on. Closer to 33 on the highway because........I can't drive...55. :) Routinely go >500 miles between fill-ups when driving in town. I once did 600 miles on a tank around town and also once did 600 on the road holding it to 55 (that tank got me 40 MPG).

Bone stock. I can't use a Weber because I don't have a carb.

406 small block, 4.56 gears. I don't want to know and more importantly do not want my wife to know the mileage.

G 200 in a 4X4. header, Offy intake and a Weber carb. Elect. ignition also. I'm pretty sure the jest are too big in the carb., I get only 15 MPG but it runs pretty good.

I still have my smog pump hooked up. Should I remove it? It passes emissions in states that require emissions but mine does not.

Was getting almost 20 running through town with the 4 banger and auto tranny. Now with the v8 I get around 13 running just on The primaries.

I'm running basically the stock 1.8, not been rebuilt, with 151K miles, minus the egr and smog pump, still the points style distributor and stock rebuilt carb, getting low to mid 20s in town stop and go traffic.

I think I'm getting worse mileage without the smog pump running. I plugged the hole that the hose fits on and blocked off the vacuum line to the smog pump as well.

I'll run out the rest of the tank for accuracy but I'm guessing the smog pump belt is going back on.

i don't think it should negatively effect your mileage to disconnect it I had my whole emissions system removed and blocked off and I got good mileage

1979 G180 rebuilt 5 years ago, .10 over bore, stock intake & header. Total de-smog, Weber 32/36, '85 PUP distributor, stock 4 speed, 3.73 gears, 26" dia. tires on 14" rims. I took this truck from Oregon to Minnesota and back this summer, and got between 28-34 mpg, documented at every fill up. Great trip, great truck. This truck now has 253,000 miles and is my daily driver.

I recently re-furbished my sons 1980 Luv step-side for him while he's in Wyoming. Stock 1.8 4 cyl with 32,000 actual miles. Engine is in great condition. Went Weber 32/36, pacesetter, and 85 Isuzu pup dist. All made a world of difference in the way it ran. Drive mostly in town but have driven to 5 car shows on highway getting around 32 mpg. Broke the hood latch cable few days ago, what a hassle! Oh yes, the paint is orange with black tuck and roll interior. Lots of fun to drive! Not gonna drive it to Wyoming!

I have a 79 LUV completely stock, about 10 years ago, before the previous carb took a dump I was getting 38 highway/34 city. The carb I had was specially tuned by a carb guy and the truck didn't have much power. I had tuned the timing to around 10 degrees btdc, and the distributor points were just right :) Today is a totally different story, I have a remanufactured Hitachi carb and I get about 20mpg :(

My old 79 Mostly stock 4x4 got around 24 mpg... I drove the freeway but tried to keep it around 60. Different Carb Holly replacement. I assume it may have been a re-boxed Weber. I have not seen Holly's since... 1983 or so.

My V8 doesn't count as I have never put a pen to it to check.... It goes till it needs more.
