I had some extra time this morning, so i decided to have some fun. I decided to wire my truck for pushbutton start. I put in a toggle switch for electrical and a pushbutton for start. Man was it easy, I inadvertantlu hotwired the thing within two minutes of playing with it. Anyone else done this?

I don't see a point. If your keyswitch works, why change it? I would think that makes it easier to steal.

As far as it being easier to steal, I'm not too worried about it where I live, people break into cars to steal stuff out of them, but rarely are they stolen.

The key does work fine, but I just always thought push button was cool, plus I didn't cut anything so I can just plug the wiring harness back into the ignition switch.

I have one toggle switch for the electrical, (acc) then a pushbutton for the engine start, so to shut off the engine I just switch off the toggle switch.

I always liked the floor starter buttons. I think I might put that in my truck

Had a pushbutton but kept the key for acc. Hide the button and it'd be harder to steal.

know what would be funny, make it so that the whiper switch can be pushed in and thats the starter button. No one would think of that LOL

I had a 58 Chevy Apache pickup that had the floorboard starter button. I thought it was cool. I got drunk one night and had a buddy of mine drive my truck home and he came to my house about two hours later saying my truck was dead! I was like what do you mean? He said it wouldnt start, it would even click over  I told him man it has a floorbaord switch for the starter, he asked what that was and I told him you have to turn the truck to the "on" position and then there is a lever looking thing on the right side of the gas pedal..... push that and it fires right up ! needless to say he came back 15 minutes later with my truck and embarrassed as hell (cause he was a "mister know it all" about cars!!)
Well just my two pennies.
Later
Husker

There is a wiring harness connected to the key switch. If you take it off and make some short wires to connect the two you can do it. The middle top and lower left prongs are for the starter. Just pull off the harness and take a coupla short pieces of wire and just start playin.

well, i would suggest just playing with two short pieces of wire until you find the ones that turn on acc and start the truck.

Just "playing with wires till you find the right one" is asking for alot of trouble. Get a wire manual, and do it right the first time. Saves more headache and hassle that way.

You guys need an "starting procdure"..like my luv has got.

1) Connect ground cable to battery via "Very big and hard to turn electrical switch"
2)Flip #1 toggle switch to provide power to HEI
3)Flip #2 toggle switch to complete alternator circuit.
4)Flip #3 toggle switch to activate ignition key circuit.
5)Pump gas once
6)Turn key to start engine
7)If night time, flip toggle switch #4 to activate dash panel and gauge lights.
8)Once normal operating temps have been reached flip toggle switch #5 to activate electric fan.
9) Drive wildly and accerate hard....oh and have fun!

If a robber had the keys to my truck it would be a joy to watch him try and steal it...Either he wouldn't get it running or it would overheat a mile down the road

Mine has a push button starter, thats the way it was when I bought it. But i would rather have the key start it.
