I seen one about a month ago going down the road here in Denver. Black with red pinstripe flames and the top off. I must say, they look better in pictures than in person. :?

I like the idea, but I think they went too car on something that should have gone truck. Imagine that kind of concept with a little more bulk, maybe a 4x4 version even. I'd be more into something along the lines of the Dodge Powerwagon concept truck than a car wearing 50s chevy truck lines.

As for the Lightning, I don't think I could get over the four letter word on the badge.

If youve ever driven a 50s truck, you know how cool this things are. They have way more style than a lightening. The only thing impressive bout a lightening is that its supercharged.Just my 2 cents. :drinking:

But the SSR isnt a 50s car. It doesnt even look like one. I think its a very poor attempt at nastalga. I know that saftey regulations probably held them back with some of the styling, but please. Its ugly and over priced. Ill take a Lightning any day and Im a die hard Chevy man. Just my 4 pennies. (2 penneis are over rated)

Well my first truck was a Ford F-100 Stepside I loved that truck!! lol But when it comes to the Chevy-Ford battle I have to stay on the line, cause I really like both of them ! Although I have to say that I havent seen anything come off the Chevy line in a while that compares to the Lightning, I mean Chevy had the 454SS but since they are no longer producing them I have to say that in my opinion (and its just my opinion) that Ford has the upper hand in factory muscle trucks, I dont know if Dodge has anything at all so I may be wrong? If someone knows tell me I am always into trucks with balls !! lol
Grimace I have to say I am jealous !!  Nice ride!!!
I sure wish the Army would pay me better so I could afford one!
Well just my two pennies!

Thanks Husker. The dodge srt-10 is coming out. It is a ram with a 500 horse viper engine in it. We will see what the average joe can do with it since they are only building like 2500 of them and they are 6 sped manual.

It's funny you should mention that cause after I posted that last message I found an article on that Dodge and it looks pretty stout..... but I think I would stay with the lightning (still have a soft spot in the heart for Fords) Well I was looking the other day and found a couple of lightnings in my price range but they are a coupe of years old.
I was wondering if there is any difference in the engine set ups in them from year to year? If you might know something about it there Grimace, give me a holler !

Yup. 99-00 had a 360 horse 5.4 supercharged triton v-8. 01-present has a 385 horse, 450 ft lbs of torque 5.4 supercharged triton. I have 3.73 gears and a posi. The tranny is out of an f-250 to hold up to 500 horse power. If you get an 01 or above, it will have more horse power starting out than the earlier ones. Be careful. There are clones out there. Ask what the build number is, if they don't have it, get the complete vin and call 1-800-ford-svt. Give them the vin and they will tell you everything you need to know about it, including the build number and the birth date of the truck.

the ford lightning holds the record for the fastest stock truck. It clocked 148mmh whith the mirrors folded back and no radio antena. I think that speaks for itself...

Well I was looking around at some places and I found a place that has the SVT series and some concepts as well...... well they had a Ford Ranger "Lightning Bolt" with the same engine as the Lightning!!! 8O but no plans on production, they also had a '01 "Boss Mustang" with a 429 stuffed in it. 8)
Thanks for the info Grimace I am seriously looking into it, the funny thing is I almost bought me a Lightning back in 93 when I first got out of the Army but decided against it. What year did they change the body style? I like the newer body style.

I really like the SRT-10. It's cool and fast. With 500 HP 8) 8) it has to be. But HP per $ the lightning is a better deal. Since the SRT-10 is supposed to start at like $50k+ 8O 8O . If I remember right. The lightning goes for like $35K. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I think thats what I read.

Husker: They had 3 year to start with, 93 94 95. Then left off of the Lightning project till 99.

BCG: Yes, No, Dark Shadow Grey :D

LUVNIT: There is no comparison to a Toyota when you are talking about a Lightning.

Jason: You are correct. I paid 36,000 for my truck. I got a 6 year 72,000 mile warrantee.

Slow down there Grimace  Damn, multi tasking questions, people might think you have no time to do anything but then again, I guess it's gonna take ALOT of work on those new years resolutions  So you have to get an early start !
Well anyway I knew that they started making them in 93, I just wasnt sure when they changed the bodystyle to the present. Thanks for the info :D I am on the hunt!I just found a '01 for just a shade over 20K so I emailed the dealer about it. We'll see what transpires
