I'm hoping I can get an opinion from someone who has bought/installed a used weber carb. The ads on craigslist are typically thin on details.

I think I read that either a 32/36 or 38/38 are the way to go, but if I get one that was, say, installed on a 22r, or a VW, will I need a unique-to-LUV adapter plate? Anything else in particular? I think I need the electric choke as well...

It's like 40-80 bucks for a used weber on Craigslist, but this is the kind of condition you get...

Use the 32/36 on your engine, the 38/38 is overkill. You can buy the adapters separately, but they are expensive. I would go ahead & buy a new kit with all the mounting hardware contained and installation instructions. It may cost a bit more up front but will save a lot of headaches in the end.

This is going to be the plan. I don't want to sit and wonder if I did something wrong.

300 bucks though...ouch.

Anywhere you can recommend getting the kit from?

This one is $302 on amazon.

It comes with adapter plates, pictured, but it isn't clear about which ones you get.

Thanks for the help guys.

You normally get two plates, one bolts to the manifold with flush head screws, the second bolts to the first & has studs that allow the carb to mount. The holes into the intake are shaped differently than the throttle holes in the bottom of the carb plus the weber doesn't center over the holes, so the plate openings are tapered to make a smooth transition from the carb bottom to the intake. Then there is a gasket at each juncture, so there's a lot of separate parts.

Understood. Thank you Oldestisuzuist. So, does anyone prefer a carb dealer? I'm tempted to just go the amazon way, but would much prefer to deal with a smaller shop.

Weber Carbs Direct seems to have the best deal at $240
