I have a 79 luv 4x4. when you first fire it up, its off. it blinks going into 2nd gear(from 1st) then comes on and stays on when getting into 3rd and then doesn't shut off till its cooler. haven't done an oil change yet tho... don't know what the problem is

Try disconnecting the wire at the sending unit and see if it stays off while driving (do this a short time). If you have a manual gauge available remove the sending unit and see what the oil pressure really is. Also know that if the wire is off the oil light should stay off, ground it and it should stay on. Something that just came to mind. Is the light comes on while shifting and won't go off till it cools down, wondering if your oil filter is by passing.
