I can highly recommend the Indy4x poly rear spring and shackle bushings, but you wont have leaf springs when you're done with that spidery looking RX7 rear end. I will say their supply of poly bushings is basically energy suspension parts but they put in the time to figure out what fits what.

im leaving the stock rear in for a little while so I can have my truck over the winter but hopefully next spring around tax time I will have a week to park it and yank it out of there, right now I just want my truck back on the road I miss driving it
im stoked to see the new dashes get done, I cant stand looking at my skeleton of a dash
I am having a hell of a time finding bushings for the rx7 rear I had thought they would be everywhere but that year range is pretty much out of stock parts

may be my best bet for these, I have found a few of them but not everything, between 3-4 mazda specialty sites I have worked out most of the ones I need. a buddy of mine is a huge mazda guy im having him help me out with tracking down the right stuff, pineapple racing in Portland is a mazda only shop so im hoping they can get them, I wont be gentle on the rear axle so im doing a lot of research on how much stress they can take without annihilating the limited slip clutches or stripping the axle splines off, aftermarket axles are in the 550 range

im trying to decide between a 390 and 450 cfm holley.. got the outrageous idea to bore a 390's secondary butterflies and fit the 450's shaft and butterflies to make a hybrid 420cfm, but that would be a much later project when I have a day or two with a mill and a few bucks for a carb core

spending my afternoon sanding and smoothing up the new intake manifold, I don't like the look of the rough cast aluminum... this is a hell of a process tho no wonder they charge so much more for a polished one the installation instructions say to port the intake to match the heads so I figured I should check them against the gasket...
bear in mind the opening in the gasket for the single port is about 2.5mm wider than the double ones are so its not as bad as it looks. going to port it with that in mind and keep them same width like the heads,

alright so a few new things have popped up in the last week so a quick update

I got my new front brake rotors, calipers and ceramic pads
the old ones looks like this

and the new ones


also got the cold air intake for holley carbs


and I got a 450cfm holley 4 barrel, list #4548, as far as I can tell was is off a ford 289, thankfully holley still has the rebuild sets for it.


edit: before I took the heads to the shop this morning I figured I would get a quick beauty shot for motivation

on a bad note I got the heads assembled leak tested them and both of the exhaust seats that were misshapen leak slightly.. theres a small chance there was a bit of grinding compound in the seats but im having the valve seats ground at the shop, dropped them off today, knew there was a good chance of it happening but it was worth a try to save a few bucks
I also ended up ordering the wrong cam from compcams, I needed the 09-420-8 and got a 18-420-8 (i got the retrofit for non stock roller valvetrain and needed an upgrade for stock roller valvetrain so the one I got doesn't have the embossed face for the timing gear, sent it back yesterday should have the right one in another week or so.

starting some work on the interior and my bed liner should get here today so going to get going on that, still need to find some seats.

the machine shop working on my heads is installing new exhaust valve seats and grinding the intake seats, installing new valve guides. should have them back early next week. cam should be back around the same time

drew up the new wiring diagram for the relay/fuse box to the switch panel and on. started wiring it and cut out the plexiglass panels for the switch panel, gauge cluster and the replacement panel where the stock wiper/headlight switches went, didn't like that space being open, pics to come

Where did you get the rotors from? I haven't really looked too hard but I never did happen to find drilled/slotted rotors for my Trooper.

im half way thru pulling the rotor off the driver side right now to check the fitment, the bolt pattern is the same for sure (the 5 hole pictured is a generic pic the rotors are the 6 hole we use. they also have black and gold zinc coated rotors but I didn't see the point
I still need to pick up the trooper caliper brackets for the calipers. I bought rotors for an 85 to be sure they weren't the post 10-11/86 style
by tomorrow I will have them checked for fitment so I will let you guys know if they are the ones to buy for our trucks or not. I figured it would be worth a try to get a more heavy duty rotor/caliper combo, coming down from the mountains I have had my brakes cooking pretty good and smelling really hot so I figured whatever cooling boost i can get will be good.

Why are you doing a re wire? I did a 4.3 swap and a V8 swap and was able to use the stock harness with very little modifications.

i think we went over this a few pages back...
I am doing it because I am changing the layout in the cab, the switching panel for the heater is gone I have no a/c so all it was there to do was switch from hi/lo and floor to vent, the low barely moves any air so its going to be in high only when toggled on and i have no a/c so i would rather roll down my window then put it on vent... I removed the heater vents on the outside edges of the dash so it is in full time floor heat and defog when on.
I have a set of toggle switches im wiring in place of the stock pull knobs running to the jeep power center. i have plenty of relays to run my accessories with, i am keeping the majority of the stock wiring and plugs but a lot of it is being rerouted to make use of the new nerve center of the wiring system...
and why not upgrade during the process of a major rebuild while everything is apart? the stock wiring system 33 years old, the stock wiper switch only worked on one setting (on my truck), no reverse lights, the stock fuse box was shit and there were only 2 relays operating everything on the truck, i now have 7 relays along with a bunch of fuses from 2-60amp to work with and 6 toggle switches + the hi/lo/blinker switch. i wont have any issues with my electrical system for many years after this and as i plan to hold on to this truck until there is nothing left of it i want to make everything function as I feel it should.

well good news the rotors fit great
couple comparisions old vs new




clears everything, bolts right up to the hub, this was the correct direction of rotation on the driver wheel, I changed them around before the next pic wrongly thinking it was the better way..


this is not the right direction of rotation this is the passenger side rotor on the driver wheel don't install this way, you want the outside edge of the slot to contact the pad first not the inner edge of the slot. the cooling vanes in the middle of the rotor are straight up and down and non-directional as far as I can tell so im going by the slots.

Nice good job looks like uve come along a ways for rebuilding the v6looks nice...i was wondering simce ur swapping out the motor if u were interested in selling ur fan along with the shroud for the original 1.8 engine seem to have lost minewith the pulley that drives the smog pump

thanks, its coming along now, will have the rest of my parts in a couple days

im pretty sure I have the shroud, I know I have the fan/bolts/metal hub disc for it. I just put it in a box yesterday

took a trip down to salem today to get some body parts off a 77, couldn't find anything local and this one has the 4 light setup I prefer the look of. got a great deal on everything, will be getting the bent body straightened out so I can mount the new lights

tomorrow morning im picking up my cylinder heads from the machinist had the intake seats ground, new exhaust seats installed the old ones were too thin to be saved, and new valve guides. along with my new valves, valve springs, retainers and valve seals the heads will be like new... only better... cam will be here in a couple days as well.
have tomorrow off work will be getting some of the body repair done to get the new grill/light assembly installed get the heads installed on the block
