Hey guys,

I loaded up my LUV onto the trailer and towed it home from a friends yesterday. Then went i went to drive it off the stupid thing would not start! And i can't find what the problem is. It seems its not getting fuel, you can dump fuel in the top of the carb and and it will fire and run rough for a little bit then die off. And while its doing this i sat there and pumped the gas really hard and fast to see if i could get it to catch, but no luck. So I tryed that a million times but it never did anything, then i advanced and retarded the timeing a bit but that seemed to not help. I swapped the carb out for a different Quadrajet. And it does the exact same thing!! I took the fuel line off the carb and whirled it over and it shot out some nice streams of fuel onto the ground, so there must be fuel to the carb. Or maybe its too weak of a pump and won't keep it primed or something. I'm pretty sure its a fuel problem, b/c of the dump gas in the top and it runs part. But i don't know if its the carb or a fuel problem, either way its pissing me off  ! Anybody got any ideas?? I am gonna check and play with it a few more times today, hopefully before christmas dinner  ! Any help would be great guys, thanks!

well a good stream of fuel dosnt always mean much. You could still be running only 1psi which is 5-6psi short of what you need. I would check the fuel filter. Just start whith the easy stuff. after that try it, my luv had a no fuel situaition and it was my fuel filter.

 Ok, nothing is working!! I changed fuel pump, and filters and no luck! Then i swapped a BRAND NEW edelbrock carb on it, and still nothing!! So what is left?? I don't understand how something this serious could happen from when i drove it onto the trailer then drove an hour home, then went to start it and drive it off?! Nothing is making any sense right about now! :?

When you got flames backfiring out the top of your carb, that means the timing is out of whack right???

yes that means the timing is way out.. If the problem only started after you loaded it on the trailer why dont you look under it and make sure you didnt smash the fuel line along the frame somewhere?? Just a thought

Check the fuel pump and rebuild the carb.

Check your timing..... And the quality of the gas.... If you put a new carb on it and it still didnt work, its prob one of those two.... I had the same prob on my 350, damn dist. hold down came loose and the dist managed to jump up and turn itself 180, and it did pretty much what your sayin yours is doin.....

Are you using a balast resistor? A coil balast can really send you searching in all the wrong places!! Ben is really the one to ask about that though.

I would guess that he checked them about 2 years ago. Check the date on the posts.
