My '79 fuel tank has a leak at the return elbow. The tank is in pretty good shape, just where the return comes out of tank, it is cracked on the back side of that elbow. I tried JB weld on it, doesn't want to hold up. Has anyone had any better luck with a different product, or is there another tank that will fit? :smt017

I had a tank leak in that same place. Removed tank from truck & sanded all rust off from around the hole. Took the tank to radiator repair shop & they were able to solder the hole closed with no leaks. It was a very good repair. Only charged me 25 bucks because I had already preped surface for solder.

Just be sure to keep the empty tank filled with something like CO2 or even engine exhaust whenever the tank is near a heat source- any lingering fuel fumes can't ignite if there is no oxygen.

How long did it take the radiator shop to repair? It's my daily driver, so if I can have it done in a day, that'd be perfect.

Radiator shops usually submerge the tank in their special solution and just leave the part to be welded exposed, they are usually the best at it.
