You can check those without opening them. I don't think they'd go back together if you got one apart. The one that split on me did stay together with JB weld for a short while, but not long term.
You'd have to apply vac to that diaphragm and see if it holds. The other option is to disconnect it and plug the hose leading to it. (my roadside solution at the time) If your problem goes away odds are there is a leak there.
