I stupidly tried removing my window crank about 6 years ago, not realizing it has a retaining clip, and snapped splined shaft that's in the regulator. Well today was my "sort of" lucky day. Found a salvage yard with a window regulator for the driver side from a 78 luv for 35 bucks. The guy said he'd sell it to me for 20 because the splines are destroyed///non existent. Is there anything I can use other than pliers or vise grips? That will destroy it at some point. I'd like to get the handle back on there, and thought about using glue or something, but than it would be a PITA to remove if I ever needed to remove the handle again.

Any suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks!

I have seen some aftermarket cranks that use a set screw to hold the window crank on, I think they were for VW's and made by EMPI. I would hold out and see if you could find a good one from a member parting out a truck.

So would I have to drill a hole in the splined shaft? That would be awesome if I could fix it just spending money on new window cranks.

And I don't think I want to remove that damn thing ever again. The window tar is a nightmare. ;-)

I said set screw.you don't drill holes for a set screw.
EDIT.

I found these, do your homework and see if the LUV shaft is the same size as the replacement.

My bad, I had no idea what a set screw was, didn't realize that I used them on my replacement shifter knob.. haha. Thank you for suggesting those, I'll do my homework and buy some. :ebiggrin

That would be excellent! Let me know how that goes . I may have to possibly take one of them off your hands.
