im in the middle of labeling and removing the wiring harness so i can cut out the extra wires and replace a lot of the old wires, get a more modern new fuse box and get rid of the voltage regulator for an internal regulated gm alternator swap
edit: pics up now.
keeping the wiring diagram close
Image
got the gauge cluster pulled, harness pulled out and labeled with masking tape
Image
pulled and labeled all the wiring from the engine compartment, pulled the relay box and the fuse box, vr will go tomorrow, i will clean up the engine compartment and remove the extra misc crap and cut out the rusted battery tray, will probably drop the exhaust tomorrow too.
Image
that was fun  every time there is another wire  will start cutting the tape off the harness and figuring out what has stay and what can go, lot of random wiring that goes nowhere and weird splices.
Image

calling it a night with that done

I haven't seen a bigger one, but I always thought it would be a reasonable amount of work to install another tank on the passenger side.

been looking into the rear suspension trying to figure out the best way to improve it so after my next junkyard trip i should know what will be going under the bed :ebiggrin have a couple rears in mind but i need to match the front end 4.10 ratio

gettin tired of myself flip flopping on what i am doing but im going to go ahead and put the 4.3 in the luv, the extra time and effort it would take to set up and tune the 1.8 for maybe 200hp could be time im driving something much faster and more reliable.
setting up a 91 non balance 4.3 v6, 97 vortec heads, edelbrock cam, intake and carb, ls6 springs, etc
4 wheel disc, rear lsd, front coilovers

soo the build list,
most prices are approximate or rounded, as well as some junkyard prices

$50 arp rocker studs
$40 comp cams retainers
$80 ls6 valve springs
$100 lt4 roller rockers
$100 4 bbl edelbrock 500 carb
$235 edelbrock 2114 intake
$90 97 vortec heads
$275 camshaft edelbrock .488 lift
$210 rering kit
$100 pistons
$170 pacesetter headers
$150 exhaust system
$300 machine work
$1900

$250 transmission
$150 clutch kit
$120 driveshaft work
$175 ford 8.8 posi rear end swap
$75 trooper fr discs/calipers
$100 4x coils
$820

$150 paint kit
$100 bed liner
$275 gauges
$70 seats
$120 dash-fiberglass, led's, plexiglass

going to be a bit painful on the wallet but by the time its back in 1 piece im pretty sure i will be happy with it for quite a while.

got the bed sides sanded, pics later
called dutchman and they can whip up a set of 6 on 5.5 axles for a 8.8 for a little more than a pair of wheel adapters would be :ebiggrin wanted to adapt the front to 5 lug but the rear is going to be easier to do
1.8 sold, weber about to be sold.
4.3 block & crank going to the machinist tomorrow, most of the rest is going to the scrap yard, when i hear back from the shop on the oversizes i will order a rebuild set and get started putting it back together.
a basic off the shelf bottom end rebuild, vortec heads w/street cam, intake, carb & headers will be plenty for it as its my daily driver and i use it often at/for work.

i will have my block and crank tomorrow when i get paid, didnt get many hours on this check so i will only have enough to pay my bills until i get some parts sold. i need to either scrap or sell my extra parts from the v6 and clear up some space.
im going to mock up the engine with the oil pan on to see what i may need to do to make it clear the front diff, when i checked with just the oil pan it seems like it will clear but its close. will get pics of it as it comes together

Looking over your post here I have a question for you. Have you ever rebuilt a automatic transmission? Are you aware that auto transmissions have a ton of updates in parts? I would caution a novice mechanic to build his own auto trans. I have friends with shops that specialize in trans and without a current data base on updates I wouldn't try this and I am a professional mechanic. If you sang one little seal or don't get a sealing ring on correct you will be a square one. Also these are so sensitive with the valve bodies if lint from a rag gets in there you will have issues.

nope i havent, i am probably going to end up using a 5 speed, i dont have the necessary tools to rebuild an auto trans, auto seems better for cruising and drag racing but beyond that i dont like them much. im shooting for a 5 speed from a 4x4 truck either an S series or fullsize whatever is available, just need to hunt down one with a pass side t-case and i will be in business.
progress will speed up significantly starting next payday.
couple pics of the truck as it sits, i sanded out all the spots of surface rust, removed the red paint over the white and took the top layer of paint off all around

What are you doing to that truck? If you want to strip the paint use paint stripper, if you continue doing what you are doing ( it might be too late) you will warp the panels. Step away from the grinder.

5" orbital sander right now, being gentle with the panels letting the sander do the work.
im going to need some paint stripper before long to get into really taking the paint off. the spots where i went to metal are where i had rust spots starting from dings inside the bed or scratches.
what do you recommend for getting the bulk of the paint off?

Paint stripper. When you use a orbital sander it causes the panels to heat up and warp. Do not do this. If you continue down this road you will have to skim coat the entire truck in filler, then block it down. That takes a ton of talent, it's not something you can learn from the net.
