What trucks can have the Single or Dual Points changed over to Electronic Ignition? Not that I am against point systems, the Electronic makes it a little easier to diagnose when there is a problem.

I can probably take one out of a 81 and put it in the 76 then with a few mods.

76 to about 85 should be physically the same, so a 76 or newer LUV could take the electronic distributor and such from an 82-85 Isuzu pickup or trooper. I'm not sure on the Isuzu Impulse stuff, never had one to pick over, but the 1.9-2.0L motors used in them are the same block/head design so the dist should be about the same.

75 and older LUVs I don't know about. The dist isn't all that different on the outside as I recall, but it might be. Next time I run across one I'll have to take a look. Only stuff from that era I have left is a block with a rod through the side, but it might be enough to fit check a newer style dist in. Making the bargain electronic conversion available anyone with an old dual point style would be very cool. The place linked about does carry a model for 72-75 LUVs though, so it is possible to do with new parts.

I have to hit the Junk Yard this weekend anyway, so what I will do is pull the distributors out of a 79 and 81 (as well as those Mags) and see what happens.

I was told that the truck would not start anymore, but I think it is because of those tricky points more than a valve job needed. I never had to do a valve job on a LUV, but I had to do some gasket work though. So it should be interesting to see what happens.

Update:

The 73' Distributers are nearly the same on top, but on the bottom is where it counts the most. Where the shaft is long with a screwdriver like end in it, the 73' stops about 3" down from the bottom of the cap fitting and has two prongs that fit into the slots. I think on top though I can convert the points from a 73 series to like the 81 electronic without a problem. But I have the extra stuff on hand in case of emergency.

I also told the Junkyard owner for every one he gets in he gets a fifth of Jim Beam. Now he has three to choose from :D :D
