My luv has a problem overheating. I replaced the thermostat and if I am sitting in one place for about 15 mins it gets hot. Its not a radiator problem, my is fairly new. So I am thinking of putting a flex fan in place of the stock fan and then mounting on the outside of the radiator a electric fan with a toggle switch in the cab.
Has anybody esle done this or something similar?

Ifg you dont have a shroud air wont flow right. Also somethi ng i would do is hose down the radiator to make shure its clean, watch coolant level, and presure test the system and the cap.

What does the water pump look like? Rusted and leaky or sound?

i used a piece of about 1/8 thick plastic and cut it about 4in wide and about 3ft long.and just curved it around the fan were i wanted it then used some L brackets and mounted them to the rad.supports.it does a great job.my temp runs about 3 hands cooler on the gauge than used to.thats about the best i can say it.it was just a brain storm i had and it worked lol.you could cut a strip from a plastic barrel and should work also.

make sure you aren't loosing fluid through the head.
you might have a blown head gasket or cracked head.
unfortunately it is a common problem with the isuzu engine.

That would be greatly appreciated. I was going to go Saturday to the wrecking yard, but if you have one that you think will fit. I'd buy it off you.
thanks

I checkd for leaks, didtn see any. Now I think I have a hose off somewhere, it doesnt want to idle. (have 2 fairly new fule filters and new
air filter) but I also have the thermostat out, was testing to see if it got hot without the thermostat. :?:

Izusu should have put a shroud on the LUV's. As far as I know, they never did. Maybe the LUV's with AC had a shroud?

My 77 with Auto trans came with one, and most of the 79 and newer trucks I've gotten have them. I think they just started adding them to everything in about 79, and it was hit or miss before then.

My 79 has one. Not sure if it is the year or the fact that I have a/c.

My 77 has one and it's a standard. But I'm not sure it may have been installed later.

Hey let me know about that shroud asap. Though for now cooling is better. I flushed out the system and I think before I had very little anitfreeze, so now i have a 50/50 ratio and it seesm to to the trick.
However I think a shroud would be good if I were stuck in traffic.
