Well I have given up on trying to find a manual transmission to fit my Chevy 283. The prices I have seen to date are out of site ($1500) :x . So I have decided to rebuild my 700R4 and go automatic!!!! The question here is, I have already mounted my aluminum radiator which does not have a transmission cooler in it :( . What amount of cooling area do I need to keep the tranny cool? I plan to have an airconditioner which means the front of the radiator will be used for that. Plans are to have an air dam up front with some long horizontal openings. Are there some transmission cooling kits available which are long and narrow? If anyone has ANY advice, I would love to hear it ...

one of my trucks has the trans cooler mounted flat along the bottom of the frame. just below the radiator.

you can mount the tranny cooler behind the tranny or beside it.
no need in running it all the way to the front.
just look in jegs or summit for a universal transmission cooler.

Cool, Pun Intended!! So it is a transmission cooler and not just one to HELP the radiator cool the tranny. I will be ordering a kit this week. Thanks....

I would try posting an add in Hemmings. Its meant for more classic and muscle cars. From personal experince, my dad had a 84 chevy silverado,
It has 700r4 it just had problems and had to rebuild it twice. Maybe you can talk to a couple of tranny shops and ask them to keep an eye out for you and find a manuel for you.

I may know of a guy that has:
T56 from late model camaro
Factory Camaro Alum Driveshaft
Ford 9" (set up for a camaro)
other misc camaro parts

I am not sure if he is willing to separate but last I heard he was selling all this stuff for a package price of $1500.

this is a friend of a friend and I am trying to get the guys phone number right now. If you bought the whole lot of parts and then sold off the stuff you didnt need, you could easily MAKE money off of this deal.

That would be great, but I have very limited space here and the Mrs would shoot me. I really don't want to give her ANOTHER reason to do that.
