Looking for an electronic ignition kit for my 1979 1.8L. Any recommendations? Was looking at Petroniks but they looked cheap made... Not sure what to get.

Go with Pertronics. It's a very reliable setup and very easy to install. We put one in my son's LUV and have had no problems of any kind.

a lot of people go with the pertronix unit and i havent heard any complaints. they seem to be a really good solution
i got a good deal on an isuzu pup 1.9L electronic dizzy to use in my luv. if you can find one on ebay i would go for it, otherwise go pertronix, mine is from an 85 p'up

Installed Pertronix II and haven't thought about points adjustment since. Popped in the kit, re-timed, and that's it.

I know what you mean about the kit seeming 'cheap', but it's robust and reliable.

Fantastic... Now is it just a "generic" application or do I have to be specific about the year?
