I can't speak for 1st-gen LUVs, but you didn't say what you're driving. On the 2nd-gen LUVs the whole assembly comes out and you should probably replace it as a unit since they develop wear patterns. New gears are no longer available. I had to find mine on the salvage market.

Both 1st-gen and 2nd-gen Luvs have removable carrier assembleys. Ratios --4:56, 4:10, 3:73, through 1980. Don't know beyond that.

After '80: 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10. I don't know if they're interchangeable with the earlier ones.

I don't know about compatibility between 1st gen and 2nd gen. The 2nd gen (what you have) is the same as an Isuzu P'up, and if you want to look for a later model set, let me know. I have some contacts.

Just be aware that the gear ratio will probably be much different than yours. My 74 had a 4:56 ratio as stock.

They are all 10-bolt Isuzu rears with 17-spline axles through '87 & the 3rd members should interchange (sometime after '88 rear antilock brakes added a sensor ring and the 3rd member housing got bigger & won't fit to the older axle housing). '81 has 4.10 gears, a '75 probably has 4.56 gears. There is one other thing to watch for, on certain years the bottom two studs passenger side are much longer, the housing some years was cast differently in this area. The 3rd will still interchange you just have to use the correct length studs- or bolts- to mount it, they are 8mm. I just have two bolts of each length & use whichever length matches the housing.

Then get the latest one you can. Don't get one that's older than yours.
