So i have checked everywhere and can not figure out what this box is for. I will try to get a pic of it when i get home

Just a WAG at this point. Maybe an aftermarket cruise control. What does it say on the top and bottom edges of the cover, something or other adj?

ok thats what i thought it was. the truck did have cruise control. but i took it out cause it was not working. the top right says low speed adjust and center adjust and the bottom says sensitivity adj.

Yup, kind of what I thought. The other give away was the chain and switches on the clutch and brake pedals. I had added one on my 79 one time long ago and I remember having to install all that stuff. After I got everything all adjusted correctly it did work fine. Removed it when I sold the truck and I may still have it around here some place.
