 Post subject: New in Washington state

thought I should drop in and say hi, I just bought a 1981 Chevy Luv 4x4 I get to pick it up this Saturday. Stock 1.8L 4sp manual, has a custom 20 gallon aluminum gas tank in the bed, 3in body lift, and plenty of free rust. primarily going to use it as a daily driver gets better gas mileage than my 71 K20. It needs a new radiator which I will be installing on Sat and a good pressure washing. Its been sitting for about a year I drove it about 20 miles with a leaking radiator from where I bought it to my brothers. It shakes a little above 55 mph feels like tires or wheel balance probably from sitting. Here's a pic of it over at my brother's.

Welcome. I'm a P'up guy, so that means I pay attention to 2nd gen LUVs. There seem to be a gazillion of them between you and Oregon. Down here, I go for weeks--even months between sightings. And even then it's often one I've already tagged and released. :)

i live right next to portland or and i still rarely see them and 90% are the same ones. its always cool to see another on out and about but its sadly rare. i usually spot a couple a month depending where i am.

liek the luv btw. was just thinking with a 20 gallon tank you could take one heck of a road trip before needing to fill up again

Thanks for the replies! currently living in the Issaquah area. I worked on it all weekend and drove it to work this morning. Not sure I can keep it, has a pretty nasty exhaust leak, previous owner removed the original carb and machined a plate to adapt a Rochester 2bbl carb on it. I cant get it to idle worth a damn and when I hit the brakes the engine stalls.

Well I am sad to report I cant keep it. I pulled it into the shop this morning and gave it a once over, I just don't have the time and money to give this truck what it needs. could be a good project for someone who does. I can say it runs if you 2 foot it, the 4wd works great in low and high, the exhaust leak requires the windows to be down so you don't choke on fumes. the tires and brand new and worth more than the truck. could be more wrong with it, only had about 30 min of downtime to check it out.

Well im keeping it. what parts i can find are pretty cheap. i need to ditch the Rochester carb its too much for it.

check craislist and the like for a weber 32/36 dgv or dgev. i run the dgev on mine and it runs great
no idea why someone thru a rochester on it instead of a weber.
body parts are hard to come by but the engine parts are a lot easier to get

I got the truck from a family member who is a fabricator/machinist. he told me he could not get the stock carb to run so he machined a adapter from scrap aluminum to fit this Rochester he had laying around. I ran the numbers on the Rochester and its
a 2 bbl carb for v8 applications 305-460 cid. I have the left mixture screw all the way in and the right screw is one turn out. Its running terribly rich. Is a Rochester 2bbl bolt pattern same as a weber 32/36?

makes a bit more sense the stock carbs are trash i had two of them that didnt work so i threw them in a box and bought a weber conversion.
i am not sure about the mounting pattern but i think they are different, redline weber has a conversion adapter to put a weber on a rochester 2 bbl manifold. makes you wish you had your own milling machine doesnt it? one off parts would be nothing but a bit of time :lol:
305-460 is just a hair away from the 110.8 CID we run :lol:
