Ok I'm new on here. I've been reading old posts for days now. I have a stock 1980 luv 4x4 starts runs good but I have wiring problem when I use my blinkers without my head lights every thing works with the exception of the right blinker blinking slow and dash lights blink too. When I turn on my headlights on the left blinker comes on in side and out. I have done the fuse box fix and cleaned every ground I could find. Also my fuel pump is running on a jumper wire. I've changed the relay with one from AutoZone (mr-78). My wiper motor doesn't work but if plugged in it get too hot to touch. I'm at a loss if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated thanks

. Justin

Get yourself a Haynes Manual. It has the wiring diagram in it. You have bad chassis ground probably. Also maybe a bad flasher or a short somewhere.Buy a test light and a Ohm meter.Start checking all your grounds and switches to find the short.

Thanks for the reply.I have the manual. I have changed headlight switch blinker switch, and wiper switch , and have checked every ground I can find could it be that the wiper motor not working and getting so hot has caused wires to over heat and short inside the harness

Could be.That is why you need the ohm meter and the test light. You have to check each wire for continuity and to see if there is too much resistance.

Ok so I decide to unplug my voltage regulator to see if fuel pump would work and it does but the VR tests good so I checked to see if fuel pump works while running the engine and it works but not when the key is in on position any ideas

The fuel pump won't run with key on, eng. off. It will run in the start position, and key on, eng. on.

Ok thanks, but now I'm back to square one. After I got fuel pump to work I changed the resistor bypass off parts truck. It (fixed) the blinker so I thought the taillights didn't work after the swap so I pulled dash panel and again and started looking for a short now I have completely cleared all the tape from the harness . It all looks good and now at square one all same problems are back plus no emergency flasher now . If I hadn't already drove this truck I would be done with it. So I am almost convinced that it's a direct short somewhere im missing right??

The problems you are having still points to a bad ground somewhere. There are two body grounds in the engine compartment--one on the inner fender near the battery--one on the opposite side near the voltage regulator. Another ground is on the frame under the bed near the rear somewhere for all the rear lights. Follow the rear harness from the tail light assemblys forward until you find a wire grounded to the frame. Frustrating I know but thats what it takes to get all this stuff to work.
You don't have a short or you would have smoke, fire, blown fuses and other bad things. You have an open or high resistance connection somewhere.

Sounds like a ground issue to me too.
