Hey gang. First post here! I've decided to resurrect my 1980 LUV and am stoked to find all the great folks on the forum here!

My folks bought the truck new in 1980 and it's been in my family ever since. It was my, and each of my younger brother's', first car through high school, so needless to say it's a bit banged up and needs a bit of "love." My folks were going to donate it a couple years ago but I (thankfully) ended up with it instead. For simplicity it's just stayed in their name, but I figured it was time to actually get the thing signed over to me and pay the insurance on it. It's been nothing but a pain dealing with the DMV since the don't have records that go back that far even though we have the original title, but that's another story. The main reason I'm writing is to find out what the rest of you are doing for insurance on your LUVs.

I got a quote back from my insurance today and was surprised to see it at $40/month for liability only. That's with a mostly good record, multi-policy, and good credit. $40/mo seems a bit high for a car that gets less than 100 miles a year driven on it and probably isn't really worth anything. Granted, this is for liability, but it seems a bit high. My dad was saying he was paying something like $100/year for insurance, but he tends to exaggerate and am waiting to hear back what it really was.

So I'm wondering what other folks are spending on these. I'm mostly looking for a ballpark figure. Would you guys/gals be so kind as to let me know what you're roughly paying? I hate getting quotes from insurance companies since once you're on their radar the calls, emails, and junk mail come piling in. Rock on!

Liability insurance doesn't have anything to do with what kind of car you drive or the age. It has to do with your driving record, whether or not you've been insured consistently over the past several years, how far you drive to work, where you live, etc...

Liability only insurance would cost the same if you were driving a 2000 Silverado or a 1966 Mustang.

That being said, I pay like $100 every 6 months for liability + uninsured motorist on my 93 firebird, and $300 every 6 months for full coverage on my 08 Saturn Vue.

Insurance for multiple cars is a rip-off. I have two daily drivers and two rarely drivers. The insurance isn't much less for the rarely driven cars as it is for the daily drivers and there are only two drivers in our household.

I just recently saw where grundy insurance has started doing daily drivers as well as classic car insurance and they will bundle all your vehicles together. I need to look into that.

To answer your question though, I'm paying $231 for six months on the luv and that's 100/300 liability. That works out to $38.50 per month. So $40 seems in the ball park.

Right now my luv is in the garage needs to be worked on. i have not had it on the road for about 2 years.
The insurance on it is $6. a month. i think its called storage insurance. the only down side to it is if you move it you have to call your agent and let him know.

If its not in storage it runs about $40. month.

the best advice is to get a guy thats in town. and can see and call 24/7.
my agent i have his cell # not a 800 who gives a crap.
