I have no stock truck. I do have a lot of little parts for stock trucks, is the reason for the pic request. If I see a pic, I may have one in the parts stash...

i know its part of the emission stuff, the truck runs perfect and quiet bypassing smog equiptment but when the emissions is hooked up it dies out constantly. i am in so cal and have smog to deal with from the dmv.

This is out of the parts book. you have 3 choices of valves. #23 on the pic is a air switch valve P# 94206581. #19 is a air by pass valve P# 94218021 and #29 is a mixture control valve P# 94204433

My guess from that statement is the air by pass valve or #19. The AIR (air injection reaction) pump is available from NAPA or O'reileys rebuilt for about $75. My gut feeling from how you explain the running is a bad mixture control valve. All of those valves will only be found used.

EDIT...
I just noticed the part where your truck has been at the shop for 3 months. I don't think the shop is looking too hard for your parts.

When i realized that i may have to seek alternative measures to resolve my dilemma i have been conversing with the owner of the shop in emails only as that way i have documented evidence of what has been said should this matter have to be resolved in court. this is the only repair shop that would work on my truck nearby. the problem is when smog components are hooked up the truck dies out and is hard to start or wont start, when the emissions are bypassed runs perfectly fine and quiet. here is the repair facility scenario. i do have it in writing that there is NO charge to me for the repairs due to the circumstances of the first attempt to repair .

Glen,
We have a problem.
Several months ago (Nov. 1, 2011 thru Dec 20, 2011) I had brought my truck in to your shop for a diagnostic, repair and a smog test.

For several weeks i was told it needed repairs to this or that and by fixing those the truck would pass smog. each additional repair paid for was told to me that it was the cause of not passing smog.

$588.76 later i still have not had diagnostic, repairs of it failing smog, and a legal failed smog certificate.

I went to the State of California smog check referee to get a waiver due to the amount of work performed smog related issues and showed him ALL the paperwork and receipts you provided me with.

He said the " failed smog certificate"( i was assured from your repair center would be suffice.) was not a smog test. Aborted smog tests are not valid as a failed certificate
on a smog test.

He asked about the diagnostic report, i could only give him the items we were told over the phone and had written down. he said that i hadnt gotten a diagnostic report either then, as it would have been itemized what parts were failing and what parts were fine.

we were wanting smog repairs done and paid for services that were told would solve the problem. as well as a smog test that the referee says "it wasn't tested because it couldn't BE tested."

I have Spoken with Department Of Consumer Affairs: Bureau Of Automotive Repair and advised me to file a complaint. However we need to be able to resolve this as i feel i am entitled to a refund of services paid for and not performed.

Respectfully,

Janet Kloos

Thank you for your quick reply. , can you please call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX. I would like to talk to you and had called the shop today but you were not in i was told. i have toll blocking so i was unable to call your cell phone number you had given me before as it is a 909 area code.
we are wanting to have this situation corrected and paid in full what was owed for work said needed to make it pass smog or at least have a fail on the smog. after several hundred dollars of it being this then several hundred more because another thing was then the blame we were not in a position to keep throwing money on it and not have the problem solved. I feel that we have paid in full the amount that was needed to have it fixed properly and pass smog.
i am looking forward to hearing from you soon so we can correct this situation. I dont want to get another moving permit and take it down there and you not be present personally.

Respectfully

Janet Kloos

Glen,
I am having concerns about the length of time this taking. The truck has been at your repair facility now since May 9th 2012. (almost 60 days) Can you please provide me with a time frame on when i can expect to pick my truck up. How much longer is this going to take.

The picture on E-bay is a pump with the diverter valve assy. One hose goes to the air cleaner, one to the intake manifold, one to the check valve/air injection manifold tubes. Also has one small connection for a vacuum line.

ya i sent the link to the auto shop owner and he hasnt responded ...still. would be nice if he would answer my request and send a picture. i am wondering if the gadget connected to the air pump (smog pump) is what he called a diverter valve. and the part he says my truck needs. i have a feeling that when aug. 1st rolls around its time to move to plan B on the agenda. i just hate taking people to court
