Hi Guys,

Well its another day which means another LUV project. I am looking into beefing up my 1.8 and making a little "hot rod" out of my 1980 2WD. I was curious as to what you would recommend doing to the motor to give it some get up and go. I am thinking Offenhauser manifold, Weber Carb, a header and installing a shift kit. What do you think? What has worked for you? I am not a big mechanic so I need some advice.

Thanks

Electronic ignition also. I am out of Offy intakes right now, but they are on order. Let me know if you ever are interested in one.

Cam regrind. After that, it starts getting cost prohibitive when you think about the cost of a v8. :p

Thanks for the advice guys! I always appreciate it when some LUV Gurus's are willing to share their knowledge. How much do the Offenhausers run?

Well the intakes were $238 + shipping and insurance, but now with the 10% increase Offy just informed me of yesterday, it will probably be around $259. I won't know exactly until I get the order, but it should be about that. I will be posting updates along the way, so everyone will know when I get them back in stock.

Something I noticed is that the main bearings are thicker for the G180 than they are on a Toyota 22R, which is considered one if the most reliable engines out there. I know from experience the G180 is a stout motor. The only issue I know of is that Isuzu out the cylinders a little too close together, and on the older headgaskets they can bridge, turning it suddenly into a 2 cylinder.
