I'm trying to get a replacement carburetor for my 79' LUV, but they've asked if I have one with or without the bowl vent. I've asked how I find out and they are clueless.

The carb is an Hitachi, type HI-2, reman from Holley. I'm not sure what the Hitachi model number is. It also is a California vehicle under smog requirements.

I'd appreciate any help finding the correct carb, something I can use in lieu of it, or the correct kit so I can rebuild it. Thank you.

My guess (for what it's worth) would be vented. If it turns out it's wrong, you could just plug up the vent.

I suppose I could do that but I'd rather have the correct part. Is your LUV registered in California? If so what year is it and is it smog exempt? What is the Hitachi model number of the carb if it has a Hitachi? It starts with a D. For example DCH221.

If I could find out the model number of mine I could probably get the kit and just rebuild the carb I have. Thank you very much.

My service manual shows DCH-340 for a 79 luv. This is Motor's manual not the OEM factory one.

Thank you very much :). Where did you get the motor manual? Also I've seen there are different model numbers for DCH340, for example DCH340-221. Does the manual give any indication of the extended part number or if it is with or without a bowl vent? Thank you :)

Bought the book many years back, probably at an auto parts store store somewhere. Covers imports, 72-81 including Luv.
Has an orange cover as opposed to the domestic models that are blue covered.
About the 221 thing? Usually just means a later production run with maybe minor improvements somewhere.
I don't know for sure but I would think maybe Calif emission standards might require a bowl vented through some tubing to an external canister or something. Like rondog says, maybe get a vented one and just vent it to the atmosphere if not needed. Carb has to be vented somewhere.

Thanks :). With or without the vent are the options for carbs for California emissions. Do you suppose the kit would be different for either of these carbs?

Usually the carb kits cover several models in one box. So you will use some of the parts, and other parts, gaskets etc will be left over for use in the other model/s.
