so i just moved yesterday in to a sublet we had just finished moving the last of my resting stuff from the vehicles and were starting to move stuff around down stars when i hear tire squealing coming from down the road so i walk over to the window and look down the street to see an 86 (style) toyota aggressively accelerating down the street...

About 100 yards up the street coming west bound from where i am parked (100 feet up the curb from the corner) he slams on his breaks and yanks the steering wheel sharply up the street (south bound)... leaving 100 feet of skid marks straight in to the rear quarter panel of my truck (my truck at this point is parked a foot from the curb) it is slid to the curb launched 3 feet in the air and comes to a stop resting on the rear bumper of my gf's 06 subaru (outback) that was originally parked 5 feet in front of luv it and 4 feet in to the yard...

surveying the damage

i had both the rims and tires that were on the front of the truck in the bed it 1 of them bounced off the inner driver side fender leaving a full impression of the tread pattern, bent my spare tire rod, launched what i can only assume 60 feet in to the air and landed 80 feet away hitting 2 other vehicles and only leaving slight skid marks on them...

the subaru has 2 dime sized dents (roundness and depth) and a foot and a half scratch on the rear bumper cover) the front bumper having had slid up against the subaru bent the outter section on the passenger side bowed the fender out almost 8 inches snapped the blinker housing and bent and twisted the valence... as well when the truck was slammed in to the curb the exhaust snapped through the rest of the way @ the exhaust manifold

now on to the damage to the rear of my truck it bent and twisted the rear bumper, broke the tail light lense, and puckered the whole corner post in 1/4"

i got out side to check the car i could care a shit less if the driver of the other car was ok he was at this point drunkly stumbling out of his truck announced "what an addrenelin rush" pointed and asked if i had insurance i said dont much fucking matter if i do or not but i do need yours and your licence... he stumbles back to his now completely crunched in toyots (which has no fluids left in it starts it up and takes off up the block 7 houses and parks the truck)

when the cops finally arrived on scene an hour later the guy is sitting on his porch waiting he is and will be charged with felony reckless endangerment (he told the cops he started drinking when he got home) dumbass, and fleeing the sceen of an accident... he has full insurence (i will try and get pictures of his truck)

Damn man that sucks man, i once had a 15 year old girl not even old enough for a license, slam into my old el camino totaling it just seconds before i got into it to go somewhere i sat in tears for awhile i didnt even care how they were since they got out running around freakin out so i knew they were'nt injured. From the pics it didnt injure the body but the parts for these are slim to find in junkyards.

EDIT: I take that back since you posted more pics he got the bed good id be so pissed. Sorry about the truck man hope you can get her back to normal & looking good again.

unfortunatly...

i am my own mechanic and will do my own body work i don't care what there claims adjuster calls the truck i valued it and insured it at $1800... as i see it there is only $900 in damages with my labor to fix it and ill get a second truck out of the deal if i can swing it correctly... i am just amazed it broke the exhaust and left as little damage as it did

if you look at the second and third the last pictures in the first post... You can see where one of my spare tires landed it bounced off of both that white dodge and the yellow dodge van... 5 vehicles were technically involved 2 because of my spare tire... the silver subaru stopped the front of my truck and the guy in the red toyota that hit me....

this could have all been avoided if he knew how to power over and shift lock he could have drifted the corner.....

i am a sales men/customer service agent... theres no way in 7's there screwing me out of a truck unless conditions below are met... hopefully not...

his insurance company is going to pay to have it put on an alignment rack if the frame is straight there giving me $900 if the frame is bent there giving me $1800 there's no way i am walking out of this deal with out a second truck or getting $*%$ed over

after a through look over all it needs... (reference my topic in introduction) a passenger side fender, the front bumper needs straightened yet again, the valence i think is salvageable but its partially creased, the rear bumper needs replaced and the hanger needs to be bent back down, the bed needs banged back out, the exhaust broke in half where the exhaust leak was coming from (6 inches below the manifold where it bends), the tail light and clearance/running light's need to be replaced, the mikado badge survived, and i think that about covers it... (i have the clearance/running light at my dads shop)

as i see it 3-5 hours with a sledge hammer per the bed and front bumper an hour of work with hammer and dolly, $100 in parts from the junk yard, a tube/container of fiber strand, a half gallon of regular bondo w/ hardner...

so all of the work i have to do was work that i needed to do already just to larger scale and a the damage to the bed corner and the tail gate...

jeez man.... that is rough but at least you can fix it.. how do they think they are going to give you 900 for that? if you insure it for 1800 they better give ya 1800!
i had a 15yr old girl drive her mighty max thru my garage door and hit the luv in the garage.. and it layed the garage door over the top of my truck.. called the cops and they said they cant do anythign because it wasnt a trafic accident.... so an unlicensed, uninsured driver causing massive property damage isnt a crime anymore?

some people should just never drive..

if they call it totaled there giving me $1800... but im going to try and get it filed as repairable to get $900 in damages with a clean title...

the only non easily swapable part is the bed insurence wise and they dont have to pay me labor... the truck is repairable!!! and they will pay me as such!!!!

I did take it for a drive to the muffler shop... free patch for patches not the first vehicle i have taken to them and will not be the last props to discount muffler of spokane!!! its by far not fixed but its not 160db @ 4k rpm either... they said to fix it i would have to go pickup a spare manifold because the lugs are fubar and they might not be able to fix it... sounds like a reason to get an aftermarket

cleaver its felony (neglant) reckless endangerment (because he admitted to having drank after he got home) its more like saying "i was sober when i did it there for i was fully cognitive of my actions when it happened" unlike a DUI where he would have been partially at fault due to not being of sound mind its on his permanent driving record i doubt he will ever get his license back.... and fleeing the scene of an accident... his ass is going to jail...

ripper i will let you know on the manifold... (im out in the valley now... hehe) the studs have "welded" them selves to the lower portion of the manifold they said they could attempt to heat and cool heat and cool to try and get them out but it might not be possible...

drummer yes i could install a pacesetter header but we will see what his insurance company says before i drop $150 on a header and another $150 on 2" exhaust... (current exhaust mics out at ~1.78

as i said we will see how this pans out if his insurance company doesn't call me tomorrow I WILL be calling them on lunch...

the truck is running and driving fine i took it on kind of a test drive with off sized rear tires (195 75 14 on the passenger side and 205 70 14 on the driver its good to know that the diff action still works lol)

i also noticed when the exhaust was broken that the truck was back firing when shifting so i adjusted the timing a bit... and realized that i had the new carb set wrong (to rich)

well i guess its not an 80's toyota its a 1995 nissan extended cab...
i spoke with jim today he seemed like a reasonable guy he appologized about 8-9 times he has limited liability but we both agreed that it would be in the benifit of both of us if we kept the insurence company out of this...

We have written an agreement that will cover my damages (to replace parts) keep both the title clean and it will get me the 82 toyota across the street... jim the guy driving the red truck owns the house he lives in and has been there over 10 years (he's not going anywhere nor is his truck)

his truck suffered a punctured radiator, a punctured a/c exchanger, transmission cooler, it snapped the cooling fan, bent the front sub frame up 2 inches, and cracked the transfer case as well as the apparent damage to the front of the truck head lights grill rad support, hood.... over $10k in damages to have a shop fix it

You're a better man than me. I wouldn't have said one word to him after that day. I'd just stick it to him and his insurance co.

It has been my experience in the fortunately few accidents I have had that the other guy's insurance can only afford to insure idiots by making it more bother than it is worth to collect small claims. Good luck.

fixed

and the second part of that I bet he will have no problems backing out of once he knows that he is free and clear of the police and insurance companies.

Contact his agent or you are going to get screwed.

ps Maaco is giving to you also if they are going to charge that much to fix a single wall bed corner esp since they wont be able to find a new bed side.
