My luv's 1.8 is getting tired. I'd did a compression test when I first got it and 3 cylinders were at 123 and the fourth one was about 115.I need to check the compression now, but either way I want to rebuild the engine.

I'm looking for tips on making the engine a little faster and more efficiant.
IF you guys have any posts on here that would help.
Also my mechanic says there may be a problem replcaing rocker arms.
thanks :D

your compression doesn't sound too bad, my book says it was 170 new and if its bellow 120 u need to rebuild it. mine ran fine with about 90 before i rebuilt it. northern autoparts http://www.northernautoparts.com sells a rebuild kit for it. $114.20 for a rering kit and $345.49 for a complete overhaul kit. when i overhauled mine i just bought the rering kit. my cylinder walls were not worn so i didn't need to rebore the block. the rering kit comes with a full set of gaskets, rings, rod and main bearings. the complete kit comes with everything in the rering kit plus pistons, cam, and timing chain and oil pump. worked great for me. gave me a good bit more power. be sure to get the head done too, my valve guides were worn very bad. also if you go with the rering kit buy a oil pump and a timing chain.

i forgot to say, you shouldn't need to replace the rocker arms.

Since I need to keep mine smog legal in california, will a weber and header be out of the question. If its ok, what brands?
I was thinking of putting on a High Flow Catalytic Convertor
I heard that will ad a lil power.
